G. SARD, Jr.
Stove-Door.
No.-199,938. Patented Feb. 5,1878.
NJEIERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHXNGTOIN. D C,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GRANGE SARD, JR, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND RATHBONE, SARD & 00., OF SAME PLACE.
IM PROVEM ENT IN STOVE-DOORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,938, dated February 5, 1878; application filed December 19, 1 "7.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRANGE SARD, Jr., of
Y Albany, county of Albany, and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Stove-Doors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The drawing is aperspective View of the inside part of a stove-door, and represents the gauze frame partly open.
My invention relates to stove-doors; and consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices designed to constitute an improved stove-door, which shall be more convenient to clean and repair than such doors have been as heretofore constructed.
The letters A and A of the drawing designate hinges or bearings, upon which swings the frame G, having gauze or perforated sheet metal riveted or otherwise attached to it. In this example the gauze is riveted to the frame for better security.
0 represents a projecting lip and a part of the gauze frame, which serves the purpose of holding the frame and gauze close to the mica when the catch B is turned around over it by the turn-key D.
In stove-doors as heretofore constructed, in order to clean the mica, it is necessary to remove bolts or pins before the gauze frame can be separated from the door E; and to do this while the stove is in a heated condition necessitates the employment of pinchers or other assistance.
By the use of my invention the mica can be readily cleaned While there is a fire in the stove without assistance or inconvenience.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let.
ters Patent, is
1. A gauze-supporting frame hinged to the mica door E, substantially as shown and described.
2. The projecting lip O, in combination with the catch and turn-key D, substantially as shown, and for the purpose specified.
GRANGE SARD, JR.
