It is immaterial as to how this connection is made. An essential feature of theinvention goes to the employment of a bracket of suitableicharacter in which all of the parts of the device hereinbefore described, except the barlQmay be assembledtogether as a sub-assembly. or unitary structureto be mounted upon the bar 1 by sliding the bracket onto the bar from one end thereof and securing the bracket in proper position on the bar in any suitable manner. This subassembly or unitary structure may be carried in stockjin' an assembled condition for application to .barsof various shapes and forms. In some instances, the body of the bracket may take form other than that herein described and illustrated,

but nevertheless, the parts may be assembled as stated ready for application to a-barhaving a cross section corresponding with the cross section of that part of the bracket which is adapted to be secured to the bar.

This is an obvious advantage from a production standpoint and it should be obvious how a bracket carrying the various assembled parts can beplaced on the bar from one end-thereof and positioned for operative connection with the bar.

'It will'be'understood that it is proposed to form the various parts of precious metal, such as gold orsilver'or to'highly ornament the parts in any suitable manner superficially, if desired, which together with gradual curvatures merging one into another and arranged as illustrated to provide a piece of jewelry which'is highly ornamental in character to appeal to the. esthetic senses. v I

It will also be understood that the collar bar herein described and illustrated in the accom-fl ing of the collar on the wearer without danger of the bar becoming accidentally detached therefrom, suitable adjustments being possible and readily made by the wearer, quite a rangeof adjustments being permitted so that theadjacent end edges of the collar maybe brought very close together if desired, orin the use of flared collar ends the ends may be readily adjusted to the outermost ends of the bar. The spring A and the arrangementthereof with relation to the pivot pin 10 and the levers 8 and 9, provides for an effective spring action} throughout the entire length of the springpn the levers. Thepin'lfl has a loose mounting in the passage 18 of thespring, permitting of more or less expansion andcontractionof the spring lengthwise incident to the pivotal action of the levers on the spring. I The roughening of various parts prevents slippageand accidental displacement of the bar with relation to the collar, and while I have referredto serrations for'roughening purposes it at the two points will be understood that I do not wish to limit the invention necessarily to 'serrationsor roughening of any character-or to any particular characterbf serrations or roughening of the "surfaces for equivalent means, such as teeth, protuberances, notches and even depressions might be employed toprevent slippage between various cooperative parts. l

It will be understood that the collar'bar or holder is of comparatively small size and that it has been illustrated to a somewhat exaggerated extent for the sake of clearness of illustration.

What is claimed is:-

1. ,An article of manufacturefor collar bars or the like comprising a longitudinally curved. bar, a bracket secured to the bar intermediate the ends thereof, a pair of curved 'reversely arranged levers pivoted intermediate their ends on said bracket, and means for urging the outer ends of the levels to clasping cooperation with the respective ends of the bar, said bracket begitudinally curvedv bar, a bracket secured to the bar intermediate the ends thereof; a pair of curved reversely arranged levers pivoted intermediate. their ends on said bracket, the outer end of each lever havingan inwardly directed portion provided with a clasping face for clasping cooperation with the adjacent respective end of said bar, and means for urging said outer ends of the levers to clasping cooperation with the respective ends of said bar, said bar being slidable in said bracket between the front of said bracket and said urging means to operative position with;relation to the bracket so that the'bracket, levers andurging means may be assembled as a unit for the reception of the desired character of vbar.

An article of manufacture comprising a longitudinally curved bar, a bracket secured to the bar intermediate the ends thereof, a pair of curved reversely arranged levers pivoted intermediate their ends on said bracket, and having groove in its inner side, and a spring composed of spring metal and including reversely curved connected spaced portions arranged to embrace the pivot means for said levers and having oppositely directed terminals located in the grooves of the respective levers.

An article of the character described, comprising a longitudinally curved bar, a pair of curved reversely arrangedlevers pivoted on the bar intermediate the ends of the latter and including outer arm portions and inner operatingv portions, the extremities of the outer ends of the outer arm portions being deflected inwardly to- Ward the ends of the bar for clasping cooperation therewith,v and means for urging'the outer arm portions of the levers to cooperative clasping relation with the ends of the 'bar, said bar being slidable in said bracket between the front of said bracket and said uring means to: operative position with relation to the bracket so that the bracket, levers and urging means may be assembled as a unit for the reception ofv the desired character of bar. v v I v 7. An article of t e character described, comprising a longitudinally curved bar, a pair of curved reversely arranged levers pivoted on the bar intermediate the ends of the latterfand including outer arm'portions and inner operating portions, the extremities of the outer ends of the outer arm portions being deflected inwardly toward the ends of the bar for clasping cooperation therewith, and a single spring including reversely curved portions for urging the outer arm a substantially Ushaped bracket secured to kthe" bar and having its side portions offset outwardly intermediate the ends thereofv and tapered beyond said offset portions to form spaced ears, a pivot pin extending transversely through said ears,-a pair of similarly curved levers reversely arranged and pivoted on said pivot pin and havingtheir outer ends disposed for clasping cooperation with the ends of the bar, and means urging the outer ends of. the levers normally in clasping cooperation with the ends of the bar, said bar being slidable in said bracket between thefront of said bracket and said urging means to operative position with relation to the bracket so that the bracket, levers and urging meansmay be assembledas a unit for the reception of the desired character of bar.

9. ,An article of the character described comprising-a'bracket, a pair of similarly formed levers reversely arranged, a pin pivotally-securing the levers in said bracket, a spring looselyengaging said pivot pin and including oppositely disposed spaced, reversely curved portions extending longitudinally of said levers and connected together,

the connecting portion between the reversely curved portions of said spring being. curved and the ends of the spring bearing one end against one lever and the other end bearing against the other lever. 10. An article of the character described comprising a longitudinally curved bar, 'a bracket secured to the bar intermediate the ends thereof and having spaced ears, reversely curved levers arranged between said ears, a pinextending transversely through the ears and levers to pivotally mount the levers in the bracket, each'lever having a longitudinal groove inits face adjacent the bar, and a spring composed of a single piece of spring wire shaped to form, reversely curved spaced portions connected together and having their inner ends overlapping in spaced relation to provide spaced seats for said pivot pin and having their outer ends engaging in one or the] other of said grooves in the levers, the connect-' ingportion between the reversely curved portions of the spring engaging the inner face of said bar.

11. An article of the character described comprising a longitudinally curved bar,' a bracket se cured to the bar intermediate the ends thereof and having spaced earspreversely curved levers arranged between said ears, a pin extending transversely through the ears and levers to pivotally mount the levers in the bracket, each lever having a longitudinal groove in its face adjacent the bar, and a spring composed of a single pieceof spring wire shaped to form reversely'curved spaced portions connected together and having theirinner ends overlapping in spaced relation to provide spaced seats for said pivot pin anding expansible and contractiblelengthwise and longitudinally of the bar with their outer ends slidable in the grooves of the levers. 1
