It can be seen from the foregoing that there is provided a positive means for holding a load in an elevated position where it will be locked and held as long as desired, regardless of the. movements of the carriage 11, and that before the load can again descend it must be positively re-I leased by a lifting movement of the line 16.
It will also be observed that there is'nothing intricate in the mechanism or the operation therev of, and no special degree of skill isV necessary to successfully operate the device; nor can it be' ac# cidentally released and the load dropped, since any movement which releases it makes it necessary that the loadbe supported by the hoisting drum, and therefore when the load is not being supported by the device `it is being supportedby the hoisting drum, making it extremely safe in its loperatio-n.
I claim: 1. A cableway load carrier consistingV of a carriage, a pair of: cheek platesl suspended from said carriage, a pair of pendent hinged arms mounted between saidcheek plates the lower ends of which have jaws formed thereon,.a hoisting line passing over a sheave in said carriage and down between saidjaws, said hoisting line havinga ferrule fixed thereon. adapted toY pass between` said jaws when separated or to vbe supported on the top side thereof when the jaws are closed, a toggle lever attached to each of saidpendent` arms, toggle links between the upper ends of said levers, yieldable jaw members in the path'of said ferrule having operating connections to said toggle links wherebythe ,upper travel of said ferrule against said yieldable jaws will break said toggle links and separate said first mentioned jaws.
2. A cableway load carrier consisting of a carriageadapted toy operate on a standing line, a haul-back line for moving said carriagein one direction, a load supporting haul-in line passing over a sheave on said carriage, togethenwith a arms having an upwardly extending toggle arm,
