Description
Attaching Devices for Harness Strap.
CONWAY.
No.199,266. Patented Jan. 15, 1878.

UNITED: STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK CONWAY, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHING DEVICES FOR HARNESS-STRAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,266, dated January 15, 1878; application filed June 14, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK CONWAY, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to an improved fastening device for securing straps to harnessrings and it consists of a metallic casin g, provided with loops and an open front, and with a back piece, provided with a series of perforations, by means of which it can be stitched to a strap, said casing being adapted to receive the free end of a strap and secure it when passed through a harnessring, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the metal frame; and Fig. 2, a side view, partly in section.
A represents a metal frame or clip, with two sides, a a, and a back piece, I). The front :is open, except the two loops 0 0, one at each end. A recess, (1, is made at the end for the ring to partly set in, as shown.
- To the inside of the back I) is attached a projection or pin, 6. The hip or neck (or other) strap 0 is provided with sufficient holes, in one of which the pin 6 sets and holds the strap inside the frame. Then the strap is put through the ring B, and returned through the metal loop 0, (forming part of the frame A at the end,) and down through the other end loop, 0, which confines it tightly, so that the more pull there is on it the tighter it sets in the frame A. This does away with buckles and hooks, and is as simple in form as possible. The frame A can be made of any metal, and painted black, or partly covered with leather, as may be most ornamental.
The metal back b is provided with holes, as shown, so that a leather piece can be stitched or otherwise attached thereto, making the frame look uniform. The end f of the strap 0 is provided with several holes, so that it can be let out or taken up, as may be required, in the harness.
I claim The metallic frame A, having loops 0 c, an open front, a a, and a back piece, b, provided with a series of perforations, by means of which it may be stitched to a strap or other part of the harness, and a projection, 0, adapted to engage the folded end of a strap and secure it to the harness-ring, all substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof l have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FREDERICK CONWAY.
