This invention relates to improvements in garment hangers and the main object is to provide a hanger having simple and convenient means for holding a garment in proper condition and position thereon.

Another object is to provide a hanger made up in the usual shape and form of wire bent to provide a straight lower bar and upwardly and inwardly inclined shoulder bars terminating in a supporting hook, a plurality of eyes or rings being formed in the wire along the lower and shoulder bars and smaller fastening loops being formed adjacent these eyes, the said hanger also including small chains attached at one end to the said loops and having spring clasps or clips at their free ends adapted to slip over a garment on the hanger and press portions of the garment into the eyes whereby dislocation of the garment on the hanger is prevented.

With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein:

Figure 3 is a similar view of a clip but showing it as mounted over one eye of the hanger and a portion of the garment therein, the said eye and garment being shown in cross section.

Figure 5 is a section along the line 5-5 in Figure 4.

Referring now with more particularity to the drawing my invention comprises a hanger designated generally at 6 made up of wire bent to substantially the usual size and shape comprising a straight lower bar 7 and inwardly and upwardly inclined shoulder bars 8 terminating centrally in a supporting hook 9 and twisted together at 10 as shown. In accordance with my invention relatively large eyes or rings 11 are formed in the wire as it is bent to shape, these eyes being of suitable size and shape and preferably being formed on the undersides of the adjacent parts of the hanger. Any number and arrangement or position of the eyes 11 may be used as desired, the shoulder bars 8 being here shown as each provided with a single medially located eye and the lower bar 7 with a pair of spaced eyes adjacent each of its outer ends. A smaller loop 12 is formed in the wire beneath the hook 9 and similar loops 13 are formed in the lower bar '7 between each pair of eyes 11 thereon.

Here again the shape,,size and position of the loops 12 and 13 may be varied at will.

For use with the hanger as so arranged I provide a plurality of spring clips or clasps designated generally at 14 and each made up of two side members or strips 15 and 16 having hinge ears 17 punched inward at intermediate points and curled around a hinge pin 18 whereby the two side members are hinged together. Above the hinge pin 18 the ends of the side members are bent angularly or flared apart to provide finger tabs 19 and below the hinge pins the side members are bowed apart at 20 and then bent inwardly and straightened to provide gripping ends or jaws 21. A torsional coil spring 22 is coiled around the hinge pin 18 between the ears 1'7 and its ends 23 are braced between the tabs 19 whereby the side members are normally urged apart at their upper ends holding the jaws 21 tightly together. One clip or clasp 14 so formed is provided for each eye 11 and the clips for use on the upper eye or those on the shoulder bars 8 are connected by small chains 24 to the loop 12 adjacent the hook 9 while the clips for each pair of eyes on the lower bar 7 are connected by similar chains 25 to the loops 13 adjacent those eyes as clearly shown. The chains 24 and 25 have rings 26 at their ends engaging said loops 12 and 13 and apertures 27 in one tab 19 of each clip 14.

In use the garment as indicated at A in Figure 1 is hung on the hanger either on the shoulder or lower bar thereof according to the nature of the garment in the usual manner and without any interference from the eyes and fastening means on the hanger. If the garment such as a dress is hung over the shoulder bars 8 as here shown the clips 14 are spread apart at their lower ends by pressing upon the finger tabs 19 and the opened jaws 21 are then passed down over the shoulders of the garment and the hanger beneath and in such position that when the clips are released these jaws will spring together on the garment and press portions thereof into the space within the eyes 11 as best shown in Figure 3. It will now be readily evident that the garment cannot fall oif or be dislodged from the hanger. The same is true and the operation is similar no matter what kind of garment is placed on the hanger and which of the eyes 11 are used. The flat gripping area of the jaws 21 is made as shown considerably smaller than the inner diameter or space within the eyes 11 and the garment is thus prevented from tearing or wrinkling at these points. If desired, the inner faces of the jaws 21 may be knurled or roughened to enhance their gripping efiect. The bowed portions 20 of the clips clear the garment where it passes over the hanger as shown.

The utility of the assembly will be apparent and it is likewise evident that the clips and chains may be made in many ornamental and attractive styles and finishes.

While I have herein set forth a certain preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that I may vary from the same in minor structural details, so as best to construct a practical device for the purpose intended, not departing from the spirit of the invention and within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A garment hanger having a plurality of eyes and loops formed at spaced intervals, spring clips adapted to press a garment into said eyes, and chains connecting the said clips to the said loops.

2. A garment hanger having a plurality of eyes and loops formed at spaced intervals, spring clips adapted to press a garment into said eyes, and chains connecting the said clips to the said loops, the said clips comprising hingedly connected side members having outwardly bowed portions and flat garment engaging Jaws.

3. A garment hanger having a plurality of eyes and loops formed at spaced intervals, spring clips adapted to press a garment into said eyes, and chains connecting the said clips to the said loops, the said clips comprising hingedly connected side members having outwardly bowed portions and flat garment engaging Jaws, the gripping area of the said jaws being substantially smaller than the inner diameter of the rings.

4. A garment hanger including a lower bar and shoulder bars formed of wire, the wire being bent to form eyes at spaced points along the bars.

and adjacent relatively smaller loops, spring clips adapted to hold a garment with portions pressed into the said eyes, and chains connecting the said clips to the loops adjacent the eyes.
