Third, to provide a machine of ithiscla'ssiwhic'h incorporates a novel meansjofworking the pow-1' V ,der or the like into the discharging end 10f the machine so that the discharging end remains full of the powder until the bin or hopper there-i abouts has been completely'emptied; L
. Fourth, to provide amachine of this class which ,incorporates a novel meanslwherebythe feeding mechanism may be set into operation or Irendered inoperative readily and-quickly as desired,-
hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of .reference thereon whichiorm a part of this application in which; 1 i I 7 Figure 1 is a side elevational View of the marking machine with one wheel removed; Fig.':2.= is an enlarged fragmentary-transverse sectional View through 2-2 ofFig. 1; Fig. 3 is an'enlarged partial-sectional partial-plan View through 33 1 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is another enlarged sectional View through44ofFig.2. I
Similar characters of reference refer to simiviews of the drawings. 1
clutch sleeve '9, clutch lever 10,- supportbarilll, regulator gate 12, regulator lever .13, connecting screw 14, nozzle 1-5, hinge 16, clip l'Lshakerplates' verging end of the hopper 'joined to a nozzle shell 2 which is substantially cylindrical in form lar parts and portions throughout theseveral.
Hopper 1..nojzzle Shell 2, brackets 3, shaft 1i,
depending, bracketsB which are provided with alined bearings 311 at. their lower. extremities adaptedtovreceive the shaft 4. The shaft .4 *ex tends through the nozzle shell 2 in concentric relation with;;its;:axis. '-The;extremities; ofthe shaft 4 are provided -with, wheels 5 which are secured thereto wherebythe wheels and shaft turn asa .unit.f-,The lower side of the nozzle shell 2 is provided with aslot 2a therein which is orconstant-width and extendsaxiall-y. i
Ant-impeller sleeve 7 .is mounted on the shaft 4: at the portion thereofextending through the. nozzle shell 2. i The sleeve 7 .protrudes' with the shaft through theends of the nozzlezshe'll 2. The portion'of thelimpellersleeve within the nozzle shell 2isprovided with several impellers 8 which are the form of circular disks disposed in parallelzrelation with each other but in oblique relation withthe impeller sleeve 7. As the impeller sleeve turns, the lower: portions of the several impellers oscillate laterally, that is, axially within the nozzle shell. 1 3 "The impeller sleeve .isxrevolubly mounted with respectto the shafts andis heldgagainst axial movement relative thereto by means :of collars 7a disposedlwithin. the ends of the .nozzle shell 2. At one. protruding end the impeller. sleeve is provided with a series of A axially extending slots 71) forming a clutch .element. The adjacent exposed portion'of the shaft 4 receivesz'a clutch sleeve 9 'whichis held. inslideable relation there- ;with.by-means ofa pin and slot arrangement nel which receives a forked end 10a of a clutch lever:10.- The .clutch'lever 10 extends hackwardly from the shaft 4,. and is journaled intermediate its ends from a supportingQbar v11. The support .bar 11 is substantially U-shaped and secured by its ends to .the bracket.3,iand dispos'edso as .to extend along the rear-lower side of the bin 1. The screen slot 2a of the nozzle'shellis adapted to'be c'ontrolledby'aregulator gate 12; Said gate'comprises' an arcuate gate portion 12c extendingaxially along and. fitting adjacent the bottom ofthe nozzle shell 2.. The ends ofthe. gate :portion 12a are provided with upturned arms 12b which journal on the impeller sleeve between the collars "la and the ends of the nozzle The upp r side.
shell' 2.: :.7oumaled onrthe impeller sleeve 7 at the ieiid thereoffdpriosite from the clutch element 7b, is a regulator lever 13 wh1ch extends downwardly therefrom forming a handle 13a at its lower extremity. The corresponding end of,
the nozzle shell 2 is provided with an arcuate slot 21) therein adapted at all times to be covered by the upper portion of the regulator lever 13. A connecting screw 14 extends through the slot 2b so as to join the lever 13 with the corresponding arm 12b of the regulator gate 12, thus by,
shifting the lever arcuately, the exposed portion of the slot 2a may be varied.
The nozzle shell 2 is provided with a nozzle 15 which'has an upper portion that conforms to the lower portion of a nozzle shell and connected thereto at one side by means of a hinge 16 and at the opposite side by means of a clip 17, as shown best in Fig. 4 The lower end of the nozzle l5 converges to a rectangular opening of the desired width and length. The upper portion of the nozzle 15 carries a screen 6 which is adapted to conform to and fit againstithe lowerside of the nozzle shell 2 so as to cover the slot 2a.
1 Disposed on the forward and back-sidesrespectively of the converging lower portions lb of the bin l are a pair'of shakerplates 18; Each shaker plate is substantially triangular with an apex pointing downwardly. This apex is provided with a forked portion 18a which is adapted to straddle the central impeller 8 so that as the periphery of the impeller moves back and forth, the lower end-of the shaker plate is shifted like: wise. Each shaker plate '18 is journaled intermediate its' upper end on a pin 181) so that the plateoscillates about said pin as its lower end is shifted laterally. The plates 18 occupy approximately the entire rear and forward ends of the converging portion lb, thus v movement .of the impeller causes the shaker plate to work the powder or other materialin the bin towards'the nozzle shell 2.
The lateral sides of the hopper 1 are provided with handlebars 19 which extend upwardly and backwardly to form a handle, and downwardly and forwardly to form supporting legs 19a. Also the rear lower side of the hopper is provided with 1 a downwardly and rearwar dly extending supporting leg 20. The legs 19aand 20 terminate upwardly from the bottom of the wheels 5.
Though I have shown and described .a particular construction, combination, and arrangement of parts and portions, I'do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination, and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention theconstruction, combination, and arrangement substantiallyas. set forth in theappendedclaims. r
Having thus described my'invention, what I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent is:
