3 Claims. (01. 158110) This invention relates to a means for generating heat from raw gasby the application of an air blast to the gas flame. V
One of the important objects of this invention is the production of a simple and eflicient mechanism for supplying the air at a proper point to the natural gas as the gas is discharged from the. tips of the gas distributor. r
A further object of this invention is the production of a specially constructed air tip for supplying air to the illuminating gas and also the construction of a specially formed gas tip to supply the raw gas at a proper point for mixture with the air for facilitating the combustion of the gas.
A still further object of this invention is the production of a simple and eificient preheating element for increasing combustion and creating separated fire travel, whereby the flame will be spread radially from the deflecting element.
A still further object of this invention is the production of a simple and eflicient raw gas burner, which is so constructed as to prevent what is well known as the creation of stack moisture.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will appear throughout the following specification and claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 isa vertical section through the burner, certain portions of the air and gas supply means being shown in side elevation.
Figure 2 is a top plan view partly in section of the structure shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of the gas distributing casing, a portion thereof being shown in section.
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of the separator plate, showing the air discharging tips formed thereon, certain portions of this plate being shown in section. 1
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view through the connection between the air chamber, separator plate and gas distributor.
Figure 6 is a longitudinal sectional view through a modifled form of the invention showing the horizontal type of generator.
Figure 7 is a section taken on line 7-7 of Figure 6.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that 1 designates the blower which is provided with an air pipe 2 and an air discharge pipe 3. This air discharge pipe 3 is connected to the lower end of the substantially conical shapedv air chamber 4, which chamber tapers toward its lower end and is provided 'with an annular flange 5 at its upper end, upon which annular flange 5 rests the separator plate 6. This separator plate 6 is preferably cemented to the flange 5 by means of a layer of iron cement '7, as clearly shown in Figure 5, and a series of suitable bolts 8 pass therethrough for firmly connecting the parts to- 5 gether. A gas distributor casing 9 is seated upon the top of the separator plate 6, as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 5 of the drawings, and the layer of iron cement 10 is interposed between the gas distributor casing 9 and the separator plate 6 for 10 firmly securing these parts together, the bolts 8 also passing therethrough as clearly shown.
The separator plate 6 is provided with a plurality of vertically extending air jets 11, which are preferably formed integral with the separator plate 6 or may be secured in any suitable or desired manner thereto. The structure of this separator plate will be clearly seen by carefully considering Figure 4.
This separator plate 6 is provided with an annular channel 12 formed near the center thereof, which channel or groove 12 is adapted to receive the lower edge 13 of the inner skirt portion 14 of the gas distributor casing 9.
This gas distributor casing 9 is preferably formed of a circular type having a laterally extendingor annular flange 15 at its lower edge to facilitate the fastening of the outer portion of the gas distributor casing 9 to the separator plate 6 as shown. The gas distributor casing 9 is also provided with a vertical outer wall 16 and the inner annular wall 14, which walls are connected by transverse bridge portions 17. From these transverse bridge portions 17 are extended upwardly a plurality of collars l8, constituting gas tips from which the gas is adapted to be discharged for ignition.
As shown clearly in Figure 1, the air jet 11 terminates just within the outer discharge end of the gas tips 18 or just below the outer edge thereof so as to cause the air to properly mix with the gas as the gas passes up between the air jets 11 and the inner and outer walls 16 and 14 of the distributor casing 9. In this way a complete and proper combustion will be obtained,
which will when ignited produce the desired flame for creating the desired heat and facilitating the burning of raw or natural gas.
Resting upon the center of the separator plate 9 is a cylindrical pedestal 20 which has its upper end seated in a recess 21 formed in the deflector element 22. This deflector element 22 has its lower face gradually curved and inclined upwardly and this terminates at its outer edge in a deflector bead 23 so constructed as to produce a or natural gas and the principal object is to supply a or jet of air at a proper point for mixture with the raw gas as it is zed from the gas distributor plate, when forcing this mixture of gas and air against the deflector element,
in producing e um amount of heat upon the combustion of the gas.
Inl'iguresdand'lllhaveshownamodiflediorm of the invention wherein a blower as is illustrated, having an air supply pipe 25 and anair discharge pipe 26. The gas distributor casing 2'7 is secured to the air discharge pipe 26 by means of suitable screws or bolts-28 i through a collar 29. This gas distributor casing 27 is connected to a gas supply pipe 30 and the distributor casing 27 is provided with an annular collar 31 at its outer end for the purpose of receiving the gas discharge tube 32, which has its inner end seated within the collar 31 and abutting 1 against the abutment shoulder 33 formed on the distributor casing 2'7. Suitable set screws or bolts 34 may be employed for locking this gas discharge casing 32 upon the collar 31.
In the horizontal type suc as illustrated in Figure 6, the preheating element constitutes a vertical fire brick well against which the flame is adapted to be deflected or discharged from the outer end of the gas tube or cylinder 32. Through the medium of the set. screws 34 it should be understood-that the tube 32 may be adjusted asto its length in order to cause the air discharge pipe 26 to terminate short of the outer end of the pipe 32 as shown inFigure 6.
From the foregoing description it will be seen t a very simple and eificient means has been produced for facilitating the mixture of an air blast or jet with the natural gas as it passes from a gas distributor then discharging the combustion against a deflector for the purpose of creating a maximum amount or heat.
It should be understood that certain detail changes in mechanical construction maybe employed without departing from the spirit of the invention, so long as these changes fall within the scope or the appended claims.
