EYELASH CURLER Filed May 27. 1933 INVENTOR.

Patented Jan. 15, 1935 EYELASH CUBLER Jacob Goodman, Brooklyn, N. Y., assignor to Delamere Company, Inc., a corporation of Delaware Application May 21, 1933, Serial No. 073,147
3 Claim.
This invention relates to eyelash curlers.
One object of the invention is to provide a device of simple and inexpensive construction for curling eyelashes.
Another object is to provide a device that is easy to manipulate, and may be used without danger of injuring the eyelashes.
With these and other objects in view, the invention comprises the novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, it being understood that various modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
' In the accompanying drawing, illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of an eyelash curler, with a section of the lower jaw broken away;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof; and
Fig. 3 is a section, in perspective and on an enlarged scale, taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing, the device comprises two jaws 1 and 2, both of which are similarly curved lengthwise to correspond substantially to the curvature of the eyelid. The upper jaw 1 is circular or ovate in cross-section, while the lower jaw 2 has a concave channel or groove 3, preferably open at both ends, and into which the lower portion 4 of the upper jaw fits in such manner asto crimp or curl the eyelashes, as seen in Fig. 3.
5 and 6 are arms for operating the jaws, which arms are pivotally connected together by means of a pivot pin '1. These arms may either be integral with the jaws or formed of separate parts and secured thereto.
The outer end of each of said arms is preferably bent inwardly in the form of a loop to provide handle portions 8. It is to be noted that, as shown in Figure 1, the curvature of said loops is such that when the jaws are closed, the inner portions 9 of the two loops will substantially abut against each other. This construction acts as a stop to prevent the application of' so much pressure on the jaws as might injure the eyelashes or distort the jaws.
The two jaws are movable angularly toward or away from each other about the pin '7 as a pivot. In use, the jaws are opened by separating the handles and in this condition the device is placed I am aware that prior to my invention it has 10 been proposed to provide an eyelash curler having a pair of cooperating jaws one of which is provided with a rubber pad against which the other presses the eyelashes, and having a leverage system for sliding the one jaw vertically in relation to lit the other. The use of rubber pads is objectionable not only because it increases the cost but because the pads tend to harden and lose their resiliency, thus decreasing the effective life of the device.
My improved construction has no sliding parts,
and the form and relationship of its members is such that no rubber pads are necessary to curl the eyelashes.
What I claim is:
1. An eyelash curler comprising a pair of pivotally connected crossed handle arms -each. having a Jaw member at one end, said jaw members being curved lengthwise and extending to one side of the handle arms at an angle to the plane thereof.
2. An eyelash curler comprising a pair of pivotally connected crossed handle arms each having a jaw member at one end, said jaw members being curved lengthwise and extending to one side of the handle arms at an angle to the thereof, one of said jaw members having a channel into which a portion of the other jaw member enters to curl eyelashes therebetween.
3. An eyelash curler comprising a pair of pivotally connected crossed handle arms each having a jaw member at one end, said jaw members being curved lengthwise and extending to one side of the handle arms at an angle to the plane thereof, the upper jaw being ovate in cross-section, and the lower jaw having a concave channel therein into which the lower portion of the upper jaw fits to curl eyelashes therebetween.
JACOB GOODMAN.
