1 Claim.
The object of my invention is to produce a simple device whereby used razor blades may be resharpened.
One form of this razor blade sharpener is illustrated in the accompanying drawing of which Figure 1 is a side view; Figure 2 a detailed, sectional view; Figure 3 a perspective sectional view.
The main feature of the invention is carried out in Figure 2. 1 is the body of the sharpener; 2 a shaft with left hand thread movable lengthwise by means of adjusting knob 3 rotating freely in part 1 but containing a nut 4 integral with part 3; 5 shows a blade in position for sharpening one side. The stop 6 supports blade against locking action of shaft 2 when tightened. 7 is the holder for the blade which has a V-shaped slot on either side for the purpose of conveniently inserting or removing the blade.
To insert razor blade, turn adjustment head 3 in a counterclockwise direction which withdraws shaft 2. Insert blade in holder, 7, allowing about A2 of blade to project out of the holder for sharpening. Secure blade in holder by turning adjustment head 3 in a clockwise direction.
Sharpen blade by drawing it diagonally across 1934, Serial No. 715,757
leather strop or hone as is done with a straight razor.
Sharpen the other side of blade by releasing adjustment head 3, shift blade to opposite side without taking it from holder, letting blade protrude about /2". Secure it by turning adjust- 5 ment head 3 in a clockwise direction. Sharpen on leather strop or hone as explained above. Blade is then sharpened on both sides. Release by turning adjustment head 3 in a counterclockwise direction. 10
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is:
A razor blade holder comprising a hollow body having a pair of aligned slots at one end for receiving the blade, 2. stop at said end adjacent to 15 said slots, the other end of said body constituting a handle, a shaft movable lengthwise in said handle said shaft having a threaded portion and a blade engaging portion opposed to said stop for clamping a blade between them, and an adjust- 20 ing knob mounted for free rotation at the end of the handle and having a threaded portion engaging the threads of the shaft to move said shaft lengthwise in order to clamp or release a blade.
