Application September 30,- 1933, Serial 'No. 691,833,"
'2 Claims. (01. 221-146) This invention-relates to delivery devices of the into substantially semi-circular outline. A plate kind adapted for use in vending and amusement depends from the upper end of the wall 4and machines wherein articles of merchandise or extends substantially radially of the semicircular prizes are delivered to the operator from the maoutline of the wall and "terminates substantially c 5 chine. atthe centerabout which the wall is bent. An 5 Articles of merchandise or prizes are usually inclined wall 6 extends from substantially the displayed on an enclosed table or platform in medial part of the plate 5 inwardly toward the vending and amusement machines and are relower part of the wall 4 and includes an inwardly moved therefrom to be passed'out of the machine curved part 7 which merges into the wall 4 in and it is desirable to prevent removal of the spaced relation with the lower end the'reo'f,there- 10 articles or prizes otherwise than by normal and by defining an extension 8 of the wall 4. The proper functioning of the machine; Moreover, coextensive parts of the plate 5 and wall 6 are it is desirable to so deliver the articles that the joined by a web 9 in which trunnionslO are W operator of the machine need not be alert to preto provide pivots about which the delivery de ca vent a delivered article from falling onto the floor may be rotated. Plates 11 are fast to the side 15 or being otherwise damaged in the delivery thereedges of the wall 4, plate 5 and wall 6 and ccof. ,Hence, important objects of my invention operate therewith to provide a pocket 12. In are to prevent surreptitiousremoval of displayed order to limit the size of the pocket and thereby and dispensable articles or prizes from a vending. confine articles therein so as to be readily acces- 0 or amusement machine and to entrap delivered sible, awall 13 is provided which/extends between articles so that they may be removed from the the wall 4 and the plate5 in spaced relation-with delivery device at leisure. the juncture thereof and the wall 13 and the Further objects are to so mount the delivery curved part 7 of the wall 8 free the pocket 12 of :device that it may be moved between article resmall recesses in which small articles might be ''of the operator; to prevent passage of articles into opening 14 is provided in the wall 4, which is ithe delivery device when it is in delivery position located in a manner to be described. A handle and thereby close oil-access to the article storage 15 is provided on the face of the plate 5, and. this space; to limit movement of the delivery device to handle may be grasped to enable pivoting of the thereby accurately position it in its alternate p0 delivery device about the trunnions 10. 1 30 sitions; to provide an article receiving pocket in Herein I have illustrated my novel delivery V the delivery device and a single opening affording device in a vending and amusement machine of I access to thepocket and to so locate the opening the kind shown in the patent to John F. Meyer, that it is aligned with the article delivery'chute No. 1,927,877, patented September 26, 1933. The of the machine when the delivery device is in illustrated machine includes a vertical front wall article receiving position and so that the opening 16 and a horizontal table orplatform 17 enclosed is inaccessible position when the delivery device by the front and other walls of the machine. P is in delivery position; toso form the pocket that That part of the front wall 16 above the table articles may be expeditiously removed therefrom; 17 is equipped with a glass panel 18 so that dls- I ceiving and article delivery positions at the will trapped and render removal thereof diilicult. An 25 49 and to provide a delivery device of simple and pensable' articles mounted on the table 17 may 40 economical manufacture and adaptable for usein be viewed by the operator of the machine. An amusement and vending machines .of' diflerent opening is provided in the front wall 18 below construction. the table 17 and a frame 19 is mounted in this p In the selected embodiment of the invention ilopening. The frame 19 encloses an opening of a 43 lustrated in the accompanying drawing 1 size substantially equal-to the size of the plate 5 45 Fig. 1 is a fragmentary vertical'sectlonal view so that said plate 5 closes the opening within the (of an amusement and vending machine in which frame 19 when .the trunnions 10 are iournaled in my novel delivery device ismounted; the frame 19 to mount my novel delivery device Fig. 2. is a sectional detail view taken substanin the vending machine.
- tially on the line 2-2 on Fig. l; and An opening is provided in the table 17 and a de- 50 I Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view taken substanlivery chute 20 is mounted in this opening and 'tially o'nthe line'33 on Fig. 1 and showing my includes a funnel-shaped delivery part 21 which delivery device indeliveryposition. has an open lower end that is curved complemen- My novel delivery device, as illustrated in the tary to the wall 4. The opening 14 is so located acc drawing, includes a wall 4 bent in the wall 4 that when the plate 5 is in position to close the opening in the frame 19 the opening 14 is aligned with theopen lower end of the delivery part 21 of the chute 20.
The illustrated machine includes a pickup device 22 that picks up articles from the table 17 and carries them to the delivery chute 20, and
.when the pickup device 22 is opened the picked up articles fall into the delivery chute 20 and pass through the delivery part 21 thereof and the opening 14 into the pocket 12. The extension 8 abuts a pad 23 mounted on the inner side of the front wall 16 to retain the delivery device in position whereat the opening 14 is aligned with the open lower end of the delivery part 21.
After an article has been delivered into the pocket 12, the handle 15 is grasped and the delivery device is turned about the trunnions 10 into the broken line position of Fig. l. The opening 14 is so located that when the delivery device is so pivoted this opening is disposed beyond the front of the wall 16 and therefore the operator may reach in through the opening and remove an article which has been delivered into movement of the delivery device, a'bumper 24 is provided on the side of the delivery device and when the delivery device has been pivoted sufliciently to disclose the opening 14, this bumper abuts the frame 19 and limits further forward movement;
Whenthe delivery-device is in article receiving or closed position, the plate 5 closes the opening in the frame 19 and prevents access to the articles on the table 17. When the delivery device is in delivery position, that is to say, when the opening 14 is disposed beyond the front of the wall 16 that part of the wall 4 behind the opening 14 closes the open lower end of the delivery part 21 of the delivery chute and therefore access to the table 17 is prevented. In fact, access to the articles on the table 17 is prevented at all times for the extent of the wall 4 between the wall 16 and the front edge of the opening 14 and the width of the opening 14 is such that prior to the time any part of the opening 14 is disclosed beyond the front of the wall 16, the rear end of the opening 14 is past the open lower end of the delivery chute 21.
I have illustrated a preferred form of my invention but it is to be understood that the delivery chute might be mounted in a machine other than that which I have described and furthermore I do not wish to be limited to the precise details set forth but. desire to avail myself of such changes and alterations as fall within the purview of the following claims: i
1. In a delivery device for use in a vending or amusement machine having a delivery opening in one wall thereof and a delivery chute therein spaced from said opening, a body providing a pocket, a part on said body and normally closing the delivery opening, means pivotally supporting the body in the machine whereby said body may be pivoted to move said part from closing position relative to the delivery opening, said body having an opening therein aligned with the delivery chute when said part is positioned to close said delivery opening, a protective wall on said body extending between said part and the edge of the opening in the body nearest to said part, a wall on said body extending from the edge of the opening therein most remote from and forming a part of the closure for said pocket, and means to facilitate pivotal movement of said body whereby when said body is pivoted to move said part from closing position relative to said delivery opening, the opening in said body moves from alignment with the delivery chute and said protective wall closes off the delivery chute until the opening in said body is out of alignment with the delivery chute whereupon the wall forming a part of the closure for said pocket closes off the delivery chute.
2. In a delivery device for use in .a vending or, amusement machine having a delivery opening in one wall thereof and a delivery chute therein spaced from said opening, a body providing a pocket, a part on said body and normally closing the delivery opening, means pivotally supporting the body in the machine whereby said body may be pivoted to move said part from closing position relative to the delivery opening, said body having an opening therein aligned with the delivery chute' when said part is positioned to close said delivery opening, a protective wall on said body extending between said part and the edge of the opening in the body nearest to said part, a
wall on said body extending from the edge of the closure for said pocket closes off the deliverychute,.and a partition wall in said body at one end of said pocket and inwardly of the protective wall and extending between said part and the edge of the opening in the body nearest said part and shaped to facilitate the movement of articles delivered into said pocket from the delivery chute out through the opening in said body when the wall forming a part of the closure for said ,pocket isclosing oil the delivery chute.
