In operation, the yarn 39 extends from the package 16 through the pigtail guide 40 beneath the tension weight guide hook 30 outwardly through the pigtail guide 41 mounted on the top of rod 20 which extends above the rod 19, the
weight being slidable along the rod 19 under action of the tension spring 42 to supply the sufncient amount of tension on the yarn, it being understood that as the tension weight is raised by the yarn to substantially the position illustrated in Figure l, that it will raise the latch lift 21 and latch 17to permitrotation of the package and thereby supply additional yarn for use, whereupon the weight will slide along its guide rods totake up this slack, the same being always in contact with the arm 38 to maintain it substantially in vertical position and thus cause the member 35 to support the stop 33. Should, however, the yarn break, the tensionweight then will immediately slide along the rod 19 to a position illustrated in Figure 2, and its arm 31, will as illustrated in Figure 2, move from along the elongated surface of thearm 318 to the offset portion 43 thereof, permitting the member to swing inthe vertical plane about the pivot, illustrated in Figure 2, and the weight to drop positioning its ange to engage the stop mechanism of the machine and thus arrest its motion.
In Figures 5, 6 and 7 I have illustrated in the base of the carrier an additional spring means for the latch which may be used additionally to or in place of lthe spring 22. This means is provided bymounting a plunger 45 in a bore 46 in the base with a', spring 4'? forcing the same outwardly. The plunger is notched as at 48 to engage the edge of 'a notch 49 in the pin 18, whereby to rotate the pin 18 and in consequence the latch 1'7 which in this instance must be secured thereto to turn therewith.
It will be noted that the guide rod 20 extends above the guide rod 19 and that the thread guides 40 and 41 are both carried cna single rod.
A'The l'pigtail guide 41 is removably secured at the top of-the guiderod 20.` A bracket 51 has a pair of 'spaced portions 52 and 53 engaging the rod 20 and rests on lugs 55 projecting therefrom. The portion 53l extends across to embrace the guide rod 19 and forms an abutment for the upper en d of springv 42,y the" abutment being held in place V by a spring 54 acting between Yit and the pigtail guide 41, whereby the spring 42 may be easily removed for` replacement when desired.V jBy the foregoing arrangement, the part which must withstand the abuse of striking the stop mechanism and thusbefnecessarily of a somewhat heavy construction "to withstand such shocksv and jars, is not carried bythe yarn, the yarn tension weight being separate therefrom and reciprocating independently thereof, whereby lighter thread 'maybe usedon the braider carrier without danger of breaking the same.
While I have described certain construction forms which embody the principles Aof my inventiomit is obvious that other desired changes in arrangement Vmaybe made Within the spirit and the scope of the invention as dened in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a carrier for a braiding machine, a guide standard, a stop member slidably mounted on said standard, a separate tension weight for the yarn movably mounted on the carrier, 'and a member engaging said stop member for maintaining the same in inoperative position, and said separate member also engaging said weight to apply pressure at right angles to said standard, whereby the action of said member is controlled in its action by the movement of said weight. y
2. In a carrier for a braiding machine, a stop member, means for movably mounting the same on the carrier, a separate tension weight for the yarn also movably mounted on the carrier, a pivoted member separate of said tension weight engaging and supporting said stop member and having a portion engaging said weight to apply pressure at right angles to its direction of movement to be controlled by the action of said weight.
- 3. In a carrier for a braiding machine, a stop member, means for movably mounting the same on the carrier, a separate pivoted member engaging and` supporting said stop member. and having an arm extending therefrom, and a tension weight independent of said pivot member movable in the path of movement of said arm to g obstruct the swinging of said member when in working-position, whereby said stop member is held ininoperative position.'
4. A carrier for abraiding machine comprising a base, a package spindle, a tension weight guide standard, a tension weight on said standard, a stop member slidable on said standard, a support member pivotally mounted on said base and held in stop supporting position by said weight when said Weight is held in working position by the yarn, said weight beingv free to drop along itsv standard upon breaking. of the thread, thereby permitting said support member to swing on its pivot, and permit said stop member to drop to machinel stopping position.
5. A carrierfor a braiding machine comprising a'base, a package spindle, a tension weight guide standard, a tension weight on said standard, a stop member slidable on said standard, a support member pivotally mounted on said base, an arm on Vsaid'member for engagement with said tension weight when the same is in operating position to hold said support in raised position, said weight permitting movement of said arm upon dropping, whereby said support is lowered 'f and the stop permitted to move to machine stopping position.

A carrier for a braiding machine comprising a base, a package spindle on said base, a tension weight guide standard, a tension weight thereon beneath a portion of which the yarn travels holding the same in elevated working position, ya stop member slidably mounted on said standard, a support member pivoted to said base adjacent said spindle, and having a nger to engage said stop member, and an arm extending generally vertically along the package and engaging said tension weight to hold said stop in raised inoperativer position,said tension weight beingpermitted to fall upon breaking of the yarn f to drop intol contact withA said stop member and permit said support member'to move from beneath said stop, whereby it may drop'into operative position to stop the machine.
