Claims.
This invention relates to cooking stoves, particularly gas stoves of the type having hinged tops for covering the burners. One of the principal objects of the present invention is to provide the hinged top of the stove with an electric suction fan adapted, in the raised position of said top, to cooperate with the vent pipe of the stove to exhaust into said pipe fumes arising from the stove. Another object is to provide said top m with electric lighting devices adapted, in the raised position of said top, to illuminate the top of the stove. Another object is to provide means for automatically supplying electric current to the suction fan and to the electric lights when 1 the top is raised and for automatically cutting off said current when said top is lowered. Another object is to provide the stove with vertically disposed broiler members that are adjustable towards and away from each other. Another object isto provide the stove with a hot water coil arranged so as to be heated by said broiler members. Other objects are to provide for simplicity and cheapness of construction and compactness and neatness of design. The invention consists in the cooking stove and in the construction,
combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification and wherein like symbols refer to like parts wherever they occur,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a cooking stove embodying my invention, showing the hinged top in closed position,
Fig. 2 is a similar view of said StOVBgWith the top raised and with the door of the broiler compartment opened to disclose the adjustable broilers therein, the portion of the stove located above the broilers being shown broken away to disclose the hot water coil, 7
Fig. 3 is an end view of the stove with the hinged top shown closed and in vertical crosssection; and
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing the hinged top in raised position.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, my invention is shown in connection with a cooking stove 1, preferably a gas stove of the cabinet type, provided with a top frame 2 equipped with utensil supporting rids 3a and the usual heating 5 members or burners (not shown) that are supplied with gas controlled by means of suitable control devices or cocks 3 communicating with the usual manifold (not shown). As shown in the drawings, the front wall of the burner top 2 terminates short of the front wall of the body portion of the stove located therebelow so as to locate the cocks or valves 3 inside of the front face of the main body portion of said stove. The stove is provided with an oven 4, which is closed by a door 5 and has a vent pipe 6 leading upwardly therefrom at the back of the stove. The stove is also provided below the oven 4 with suitable utensil drawers 7 and at one side of said oven with a broiler compartment 3, which is closed by means of a door 9.
The stove is provided with a hinged top or cover 10 which, when closed, covers'the entire burner top 2 and gas cocks and, when opened, serves as a splasher back for said burner top. As shown in the drawings, the cover 10 is secured along its rear edge to the rear edge of the burner top 2 by means of suitable hinges 11 and has a depending flange or apron 12 along its front or free edge adapted to overhang the gas cocks 3 in the closed position of the cover. Mounted in the apron portion 12 of the hinged cover 10 for sliding movement towards and away from the main body portion of said 'cover is a plate or shield 13, which is adapted to be drawn outwardly in the raised position of the cover so as to increase the width of the portion of the cover that overhangs the burner top.
The hinged cover of the stove has an opening 14 formed thereinv adapted to be brought into register with a similar opening 15 in the front side of the vent pipe 6 in the raised or upright position of said cover. Mounted in the opening 14 in said cover is an electrically operated exhaust or suction fan 16 which has a wiring connection 17 with a contact member 18, which is fixed to said cover and forms one element of an electric switch. The other or stationary element of said switch is enclosed in a switch box 19 secured to the stationary body portion of the stove and is supplied with electric current through a cord 20 leading from said box. The cover 10 is also provided with electric lighting fixtures 21 that are preferably disposed one on each side of the suction fan 16 and have suitable wiring connections with the element 18 of the control switch for the electric fan 16. By the arrangement described, the fan 18 and the fixture 21 are sup plied with electric current when the cover 10 is raised and thus operates, respectively, to carry ofi' fumes arising from the stove and to illuminate the burner top. When the cover is closed, the switch that controls the fan and the light circuits is opened, thereby stoppingthe fan and 2:52 turning ofi the electric lights.
Mounted in the broiler compartment 8 for horizontal sliding movement therein towards and away from each other are two vertically disposed broiler members 22, each or which is supplied with gas through a suitable mixing tube 23 located in said compartment below said broiler members. The broiler members 22 are slidable on bars 24, that project horizontally from the side walls of the broiler compartment. Said broiler members are provided at each end with horizontallydisposed rack bars '25. The rack bar at one end of a broiler member overlaps and is spaced from the rack bar at the corresponding end of the other broiler member; and the two rack bars have their teeth facing each other so as to cooperate with a pinion 26 located between the overlapping ends of said bars. The p'mlon 26 is fixed t9 a shatt 27, which is rotatably supported in the broiler compartment and is provided at its outer end with an operating handle 28. By this arrangement, the vertically disposed broiler members may be moved towards or away from each other to properly locate them with respect to food located therebetween.
The stove is provided with a suitable hot water coil 29 that is located in the broiler compartment 8 above the broilers so as to be heated thereby.
Obviously, numerous changes maybe made without departing from the invention and I do not wish to be limited to the precise construction shown and described.
What I claim is:
1. A cooking stove comprising a burner top and a hinged cover therefor adapted in open position to serve as a splasher back, a fan mounted in said cover, and a vent pipe for said stove having an opening therein, said fan being adapted to be brought into register with said opening in the open position of said cover.
2. A cooking stove comprising a burner top and a hinged cover therefor, said cover being adapted to serve as a splasher back in the upright position thereof, an electric fan mounted in said cover, and a vent pipe for said stove pro vided with an opening, said Ian being adapted to be brought into register with said opening in the raised position of said cover.
3. A cooking stove comprising a burner top and a hinged cover therefor, said cover being adapted to serve as a splasher back in the upright position thereof, an' electric fan mounted in said cover, an electric switch for controlling the operation of said fan, one element of said switch being mounted on said stove and the other element of said switch being mounted on said cover for cooperation with said first mentioned element in the raised position of said cover, and a vent pipe Iorsaid stove provided with an opening, said fan being adapted to be brought into register with said opening in the raised position of said cover. a
4. A cooking stove comprising a burner top and a hinged cover therefor, said cover being adapted to serve as a splasher back in theupright position thereof, a vent pipe for said stove, said vent pipe having an opening in the side thereof, an opening in said cover adapted to register with said vent pipe opening in the raised position of said cover, and an electric fan mounted in said cover opening.
5. A cooking stove comprising a burner top and a hinged cover therefor, said cover being adapted to serve as a splasher back in the upright position thereof, a vent pipe for said stove, said vent pipe having an opening in the side thereof, an opening in said cover adapted to register with said vent pipe opening in the raised position of said cover, an electric fan mounted in said cover opening, and means controlled by the raising and lowering movement of said cover for operating the ianin the upright position of said cover and for stopping said fan in the closed position of said cover.
