Description
UNrrED srA'rEs rarEN-J'r oEEicE.
P. H. CHESLEY, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS.
MEAT-CHOPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 19,681, dated March 23, 1858.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, PLUMER H. CI-IEsLEY, of Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Machines for Chopping Meat, Fish, and Vegetables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1, is a perspective view; Fig. 2 represents the cleaner at the bottom of the machine through Which the knives pass; Fig. 3 reperesents the rod, to Which the knives are attached, the spring, and the Wheel acting upon the rod.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing a Wheel, a, With cogso, so placed upon its surface, that, upon turning it With a crank, o, they Will successively, each in its line of rotation, come in Contact With the projections, d, d, d, on the several rods, f, f, f, to Which the knives are attached, and drive them dovvn through their spaces in the slots g, g, g, until they are detached from the cogs on the Wheel by its rotary motion. The knives, 7c, 7o, 7c, as shown, (or in any other form,) are returned to theirl former position by means of spiral springs z', z', z', so that they are constantly kept in motion by turning the Wheel, making, as shown by the model forty cuts with the knives to one revolution of the Wheel. The number of cogs, as also the number of knives can be increased or diminished, for a larger or smaller machine, according to circumstances; the operation being the same, as to the character of the machine.
The cleaner or plate p, through which the knives pass, serves to keep the meat, &c., from getting into the machine, thereby keeping the interior in neat order. The diagonal position of the knives 7c, le, 7s, which can, When in use, be made longer or shorter, Will perfect the Work better in this kind of machine, than in anyY other position.
The trough t, under the machine, has a groove n, by which the tvvo are confined together; While at the same time the machine can be moved, as the Work is performed, by means of a handle s, as shown.
y Having thus described the construction and operation of my machine for chopping meat, ish, and vegetables-What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is,
The arrangement of the cogged Wheel, the series of spring cutters, and cleaner with each other operating substantially in the manner and for the purpose as described.
PLUMER H. CHESLEY.
