Description
G. E. KERLIGKS-. Door Securer.
No. 196,810. Patented Nov. 6,1877.

MPETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPNER. WASHINGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT DFFIOE;

IMPROVEMENT IN DO OR-SECURERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,810, dated November 6, 1877; application filed September 10, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORG E. KERLIOKS, of Ohapin, in the county of Morgan and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Door-Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved doorfastener, showing its position on the door. Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a compact and effective door-fastener for the use of travelers, which may be readily applied to, or removed from, the door.
In the drawing, A is a slotted bar, a short.
portion of the ends of which are turned up in the same direction at a right angle. The end a is chisel-shaped, and may readily be forced into the jamb of the door. The end bis drilled and tapped, and to it a th1unb.-screw,c, is fitted. A head, d, is swiveled to the end of the said screw, and one of its ends passes through the slot in the bar A, and to it a bracket, 0, is pivoted. A similar bracket, f, is rigidly secured to the opposite end of v the head d. A spring, g, is riveted to the bar A near its chisel-shaped end, and a latch, B, is pivoted to the bar A near the end through which the screw 0 passes. This latch is of the same c is turned, clamping the door tightly. Should the space between the edge of the door and the jamb be large, the latch B is placed over the spring 9, which increases the thickness of the parts included between the edge of the door and the jalnb.
Having thusdescribed my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- end a and internally-threaded end I), the screw 0, head d, brackets e f, spring g, and latch B, in combination,substantially as shown and described.
