Description

July 3, 1934- A. N. GUERIN mmsme BOTTLE HOLDER Filed NOV. 20, 1953 INVENTOR,
ATTORNEY Patented July 3, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in nursing bottle holders and has for its primary object the provision of a novel device for holding a nursing bottle in a convenient and accessible position where it is available for use by an infant lying in its crib or bed.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the type characterized which is capable of being satisfactorily employed with different size nursing bottles to prevent the bottle from which an infant is feeding from slipping out of its reach.
Other objects more or less apparent will present themselves or will be specifically pointed out in the description to follow.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my improved nursing bottle holder showing it applied to a nursing bottle; and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates a nursing bottle of any suitable kind or shape which is ordinarily used to hold quantities of milk to be fed to an infant. My invention comprises a resilient ring-shaped band 2, made from rubber or other suitable flexible material which is adapted to extend around the body portion of the bottle 1. In ordinary practice the band 2 is normally smaller in circumference than the body portion of the bottle to which it is applied. After the band is applied to a bottle the resilient material which has become stretched causes the band to firmly adhere to the bottle. Joined at its ends to a side of the band 2 is a flexible strip 3 which is made from the same flexible material as the band and is preferably formed integrally therewith. The strip 3 at points between its ends is spaced from the band, and is provided with two holes 4 through which a safety pin 5 or other securing means is adapted to extend.
In actual practice the bottle holder'is attached by means of the safety pin 5 to a pillow or cover in such a position that the bottle is held with its nipple within convenient reach of the infant. The band 2 firmly clings to the bottle and holds it in position, thereby preventing its withdrawal or displacement even though considerable draft be brought to bear upon the nipple. Owing to the fact that a part of the band 2 is interposed between the pin 5 and the bottle, there is no slipping of the said band with reference to the bottle, which action would otherwise occur is the metal of the pin and the glass of the bottle contacted one another. The material comprising the strip 3 is preferably of greater thickness than that of the band, thereby providing a sturdy construction where the tension upon the pin is principally centered.
It is apparent to those skilled in the art that my invention is susceptible of numerous changes and modifications in regard to form, shape and minor details of construction. It is to be understood, therefore, that the appended claims are to determine the scope of my invention rather than the exact disclosures made herein.
My improved nursing bottle holder, while capable of easy attachment and detachment, may be boiled or otherwise suitably sterilized without danger of damage to the material from which the device is made.
Having described my invention what I claim is:
1. In a nursing bottle holder, a flexible continuous band adapted to extend circumferentially around the body portion of a nursing bottle, and means attached to the band for securing the device to a pillow or other support.
2. In a nursing bottle holder, a flexible band adapted to extend around the body portion of a nursing bottle, a flexible strip secured at its ends to the band, that part of the strip which is located intermediate its ends being spaced from the band, and a metal securing device attached to the strip.
3. In a nursing bottle holder, a rubber band adapted to extend around the body portion of a nursing bottle, a rubber strip secured at its ends to the band, the said strip at points intermediate its ends being spaced from the band and provided with a plurality of holes, and means extending through the holes of the strip for securing the device to a support.
