This invention relates to revoking mechanisms for magazines of automatic looms and it is a general object of the invention to provide means whereby the transfer mechanism may be revoked positively by a misplaced shuttle.
In previous constructions the transfer latch drops by gravity out of the path of the advancing bunter when the magazine revokes. In modern looms, however, where higher speeds are ob tained, it is found that the pull of gravity does not act quickly enough, with the result that the magazine transfers a bobbin into a misplaced shuttle and causes considerable damage. It is therefore an object of my invention to cause the transfer latch to be moved from the path of the hunter by positive means and at a rate which is proportional to the speed of the loom.
Heretofore, the shuttle feeler has acted to reset the top shaft and the transfer latch lifter rod when the lay was at front center and while the transfer was being completed, the latch falling when the hunter receded. In constructions having a positive connection between the latch and the shuttle feeler it is obvious that the shuttle feeler cannot be reset until the latch is free from the hunter. -It is a further object of my invention so to construct the shuttle feeler that it will perform its usual feeling and revoking functions on the forward stroke of the lay, but will delay its resetting action until the hunter is clear of the latch on the rearward stroke of the lay.
It is still further an object of my invention to keep the motion of the latch positive in both directions.
With these and other objects in view-which will appear as thedescription proceeds, my invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and set forth in the claims.

By referring to the drawings it will be seen that I have provided a lay L and a loom frame which supports a foot 11 of the magazine M.
The magazine has various cells 12 which con tain bobbins B which are presented in proper se quence to the position B for transfer to the shuttle S. The transfer arm T is pivoted at 13 in the usual manner and has a depending arm 14 to which is pivoted the latch holder 15.
As shown in Figs. 4 and 5 the shuttle feeler F is connected to the top shaft toggle mechanism by means of a rod 20. The toggle mechanism 21 is mounted on the shaft 22 which is supported 65 by bearings 23 on the magazine M. An arm 24 is pivoted to a forked rod 25 surrounded by a spring 26 which bears against the head 27 and the washer 28. The rod 25 is free to slide through the washer and the bearing 29 on the magazine frame. Further details of this constructionmay be had from patent to Wattie No. 1,786,688 issued December 3Q, 1930.
The color slides 30 are acted upon in the usual way by the indicator fingers 31 to release a 5 bobbin for transfer and to place the toggle in the full line position shown in Fig. 4 by means of the dogs 32. The matter thus far described is of common construction and forms no part of my present invention. 80
In carrying my invention into effect I form the shuttle feeler F in two parts, the finger 35 being pivoted to the arm 36 by means of a shaft 3'7 held by a nut 38. A torsion spring on the shaft 3? causes the stop 39 to maintain contact 85 with the stop 40 and limits the movement of the finger 35. A pin 41 is mounted on the finger 35 and is adapted for engagement with a block 42 mounted on the lay. The block 42 has an inclined face 43 which allows the pin 41 to slide over it on the forward stroke of the lay, but also has an arcuate notch 44 on its rear side which catches the pin 41 and moves it rearwardly on the backward stroke of the lay.
The latch holder 15 is provided with an arm 45 containing a slot 46 which receives the pin 47 mounted on the rod 48 which in turn is rigidly connected to the toggle mechanism 21. It will be seen that a downward motion of the rod 48 will cause the holder 15 to pivot around the point 49 and place the latch 50 in the path of the hunter 51.
Fig. 1 shows the parts in normal running position with the lay at front center. Upon indication for a transfer the color slides will function in the usual manner and cause the toggle to assume the position shown in full lines in Fig. 4. At the same time the latch 50 will rise into the path of'the hunter and the feeler will drop into the range of the shuttle. The lay is at back center when the change occurs and advances to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. As the lay moves forwardly the pin 41 slides over the inclined surface 43, which lifts the rod 20 slightly but not enough to throw the toggle over its center. If the shuttle is properly boxed the shuttle feeler will remain down, as the box back is cut away to allow it free passage. The transfer of the bobbin will therefore occur in the usual manner. The slot 46 allows the latch free movement in a horizontal plane as may be seen in Fig. 2.
As the lay recedes the pin 41 will be caught in the concave recess 44 and carried to a position such as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3. It will be seen that the pivot point 37 is lifted together with the rod 20 sufficiently to throw the toggle over its center and return the transfer latch to its normal position. The torsion spring on the shaft 37 returns the finger 35 to its usual position as soon as it is released from the notch 44. In this way the magazine is reset after a normal transfer.
If the shuttle S is not properly boxed, but occupies some such position as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4, it will contact with the surface 55 and the shuttle feeler will be cammed up to its original position and at the same time the latch 50 will be moved out of the path of the hunter 51 by the rod 48 and no transfer will result, in the usual manner.
As the shuttle comes into the box at bottom center and is picked out at top center it is necessary that no part of the shuttle feeler be in the path of the shuttle while the crank shaft is moving from top center to bottom center or while the shuttle is in motion. The dotted line position of the lay in Fig. 3 is shown at top center and it will therefore be seen that the finger 35 will always be clear of the shuttle when in action, The notch 44 is in advance of the shuttle so that the latter may pass the arm 35 when the parts are as shown in Fig. 3 in dotted lines, if the pick is set early.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided positive means whereby the transfer latch may be moved into or out of the path of the hunter, this result being made possible by having the resetting action take place on the rearward stroke of the lay, and after the lay hunter and transfer latch have become disengaged.
Having thus described my invention it will be seen that changes and modifications may be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, but what I claim is:
1. In a multicolor weft replenishing loom operating with a lay, means to set the loom for transfer, and a shuttle feeler to revoke transfer on the forward beat of the lay and effective to reset the loom on the rearward movement of the lay.
2. In a multicolor weft replenishing mechanism operating with a lay, transfer means to be operatively connected to the lay during a given interval in the movement of the lay when the mechanism is set for transfer, and a shuttle feeler capable of revoking transfer prior to the beginning of the interval and effective to reset the mechanism after said interval is completed.
3. In a mul icolor weft replenishing mechanism operating with a lay, transfer mechanism having a given time interval during which to complete its operation when the mechanism is set for transfer, and a shuttle feeler capable of revoking transfer before said interval and operative after the given interval to reset the magazine.
4. In a multicolor weft replenishing mechanism operating with a lay, and having a plurality of color slides, a shuttle feeler movable from nonfeeling to feeling position prior to transfer, a transferrer latch movable from inoperative to operative position relatively to the lay preparatory to transfer, a controller for the shuttle feeler and latch to be actuated by any one of the color slides, and permanent continuous connections between the shuttle feeler controller and the latch effective when the shuttle feeler is moved by a misplaced shuttle to move the latch out of operative position relatively to the lay, said connections effective to cause movement of the latch whenever the controller moves.
5. In a multicolor weft replenishing mechanism operating with a lay, vertical slides, a movable member to be operatively related to one of the slides and movable from normal to abnormal position prior to transfer, a transferrer latch, a shuttle feeler connected to the member and movable thereby from normal to feeling position prior to transfer, and connections effective at all times to cause simultaneous positive movements of the member and the latch when the member moves the feeler either toward or from normal position.
6. In a multicolor weft replenishing mechanism operating with a lay and having a plurality of color slides, a replenishing mechanism member under control of each color slide and capable of being set and reset, a shuttle feeler connected to the member and movable from non-feeling to feeling position prior to transfer, a latch movable from inoperative to operative position relatively to the lay prior to transfer, means to hold the feeler in feeling position throughout the engage ment of the lay with the latch, and means to thereafter raise the shuttle feeler to reset the member.
7. In a multicolor weft replenishing mechanism operating with a lay, and having a plurality of color slides, a shuttle feeler, a transferrer latch to be engaged by the lay, a controller to be actuated by each color slide and effective to cause simultaneous movement of the feeler and latch from non-transferring to transferring positions, means to maintain the shuttle feeler in transferring position throughout the interval during which the lay is operatively related to the latch, and means effective subsequent to the interval to return the shuttle feeler and latch to non-transferring positions.
8. In a multicolor weft replenishing loom operating with a shuttle and having a magazine, mechanism to set the magazine for transfer, positively acting means independent of gravity to prevent transfer and reset the magazine if the shuttle is improperly positioned, means to reset the magazine after a normal transfer, and additional devices operative when the magazine is reset by either means to maintain the magazine reset.
9. In a weft replenishing loom having a magazine capable of being set for transfer and operating with a lay, two separate means to effect resetting of the magazine, one of said means being operative during forward movement of the lay when a shuttle is misplaced, and the other being operative during rearward movement of the lay following a normal transfer.
10. In a weft replenishing loom having a lay movable back and forth and a shuttle, transfer mechanism to be operatively related to the lay to effect transfer, and a shuttle feeler, said shuttle feeler being jointed and movable as a unit on forward movements of the lay to revoke transfer and collapsible on the backward movement of the lay to restore the loom to normal position.
11. Ina weft replenishing loom operating with a lay and shuttle moving back and forth, a transfer mechanism movable from normal totransfer position, a shuttle feeler, said shuttle feeler being jointed and movable as a whole by a misplaced shuttle on the forward movement of the lay to restore the transfer mechanism to normal position to prevent a transfer, and said feeler being collapsible by engagement of the lay on the backward movement of the latter after a normal transfer to restore the transferrer mechanism to normal position.
12. In a weft replenishing loom operating with a lay and shuttle moving back and forth, a transfer mechanism movable from normal to transfer position, a shuttle feeler, said shuttle feeler having two jointed parts which act as a unit when engaged by a misplaced shuttle on the forward movement of the lay to prevent transfer and restore the transfer mechanism to normal position, one of said parts after a normal transfer having engagement with the lay on the backward movement of the latter to cause relative movement of said parts and thereby effective to restore the transfer mechanism to normal position.
13. In a weft replenishing loom operating with a lay and shuttle moving back and forth, a transfer mechanism movable from normal to transfer position, a shuttle feeler, yieldable means capable of holding the transferrer mechanism and shuttle feeler either in transfer or normal positions, the shuttle feeler having two jointed parts which act as a unit without relative movement when the feeler is engaged by a misplaced shuttle on the forward movement of the lay to communicate a force to said yielding means and move the transfer mechanism to normal position to prevent a transfer, said parts of the feeler being movable with respect to each other by engagement of one of said parts with the lay after a normal transfer on the backward movement of the latter to communicate a force to said yielding means to restore the transfer mechanism to normal position.
14. In a weft replenishing loom operating with a lay and shuttle moving back and forth, a transfer mechanism movable from normal to transfer position, a shuttle feeler, yieldable means capable of holding the transferrer mechanism and shuttle feeler either in transfer or" normal position, said shuttle feeler being formed of two parts one of which is directly connected to the yielding means and the other of which is positioned for engagement with the lay and shuttle, said shuttle feeler parts acting as a unit without relative movement with respect to each other when said other part is engaged by a misplaced shuttle on the forward movement of the lay to communicate a force through said yielding means to restore the transfer mechanism, to normal position and prevent a transfer, said other part being engaged by the lay after a normal transfer on the backward movement of said lay to move relatively to the part connected to the yielding means and effective by a force derived from the lay to move said yielding means from transfer to normal position, thereby restoring the transfer mechanism to normal position.
15. In a weft replenishing loom operating with a lay and shuttle moving back and forth, a transfer mechanism movable from normal to transfer position, a shuttle feeler, a member movable from normal to transfer position, a yielding lock to hold said member either in normal or transfer position, the shuttle feeler being formed in two parts one of which is connected to the member to effect movement of the shuttle feeler from normal to transfer position, the other part of the feeler being positioned for engagement with the lay and shuttle, said parts moving as a unit when a shuttle is misplaced on the forward movement of the lay to communicate a force to said member and move the latter against the yielding look from transfer to normal position to prevent a transfer, said other part positioned to engage the lay on the backward movement of the latter after a normal transfer to communicate a force from the first named part to the member to unlock the same from its transfer position and move said member to a position where said yielding lock is effective to complete the movement of the member and shuttle feeler to normal position.
16. A shuttle feeler for a Weft replenishing loom operating with a lay and shuttle, said feeler being formed of two parts pivoted together, one of said parts having a bearing by means of which both parts are supported to move around a common axis when engaged by a misplaced shuttle, the other part constructed to engage the lay after a normal transfer and cause relative angular movement of the parts and also movement of the first part around said axis.
