3 Claims.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in cutting implements, and more particularly to a tool especially adapted for cut ting bolts and other heavy objects.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a tool of the character stated wherein the jaws are universally mounted so that the object to be out can be reached from various angles.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.

Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen, particularly in Figure 1, that numerals 5-6 represent the handles of the tool, while numerals '77 represent the jaws, each'of which is reduced on one side at its head a to provide a cutting edge I). The heads a-a are provided with meshing teeth 0 and a pair of connector plates 88 serve as links for the heads a--a, there being a pin or rivet 9 disposed through each of the jaws and through the corresponding ends of the said plates 88.
Each jaw 7, at its inner end, is provided with an inwardly offset hemi-spherical shaped member 10 provided at its outer face with a recess 11.
The handles 5--6 are provided at their jaw ends with recesses 12 for receiving the hemi-spherical ,5 shaped members 10 and for each of these members 10 there is a leaf spring 12 on the corresponding handle secured thereto by suitable means 13 and having at its free end portion a downturned toe 14 for engagement into the recess 11 of the corre- '50 spending member 10. A spring 15 is secured to pair of flanges 16 between which the reduced structure forming the flange 17 on the handle 6 engages.
Figure 7, as well as Figure 6, shows how the pin 18 which swingably connects the handles together is mounted to compensate for wear. Each of the flanges 16 is provided with a circular opening 19 and each of these flanges 16, at the edge portion of its opening 19, is provided with teeth for mesh with the teeth of the corresponding eccentric 20. These eccentrics are simply disks with ofi-center openings for receiving the ends of the pin 18. There is an intermediate eccentric 21 having teeth and also located in an opening in the flange 17, which flange at the opening is provided with teeth for mesh with the said eccentric 21. The opening in this eccentric 21 is also off center and receives the intermediate portion of the pin 18.
Obviously, to afford adjustments to compensate for sharpening of the jaws, the pin is removed and the eccentrics turned slightly one notch or so and the pin again inserted.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A cutting tool of the character described comprising a pair of handles pivotally connected together, a pair of pivotally connected jaws, each of the said jaws at its inner end being provided with a rounded head, the inner ends of the handles being provided with sockets for receiving the said heads, and a spring on each of the said handles, each of said springs being secured at one of its ends to the corresponding handle, while its opposite end resiliently engages a corresponding jaw head to retain the same in its corresponding handle socket.
2. A cutting tool of the character described comprising a pair of handles pivotally connected together, a pair of pivotally connected jaws, each of the said jaws at its inner end being provided with a rounded head, the inner ends of the handles being provided with sockets for receiving the said heads, a spring on each of the said handles, each of said springs being secured at one of its ends to the corresponding handle, while its opposite end resiliently engages a cor' responding jaw head to retain the same in its corresponding handle socket, each of the said heads having a recess therein, each of the said at one of its ends to the corresponding handle, while its opposite end resiliently engages a corresponding jaw head to retain the same in its corresponding handle socket, each of the said heads being of hemi-spherical shape having a flat outer side provided with a recess therein, the said springs being provided at their free ends with laterally disposed pintles for engagement into the said recesses of the jaw heads.
