MANICURE SET Filed Dec. 30, 1931 Patented May 22, 1934 PATENT Fiel;4
MANICURE SET Georgette Mirmann, Joinvillele Pont, France Application December so, 1931, serial No. 583,800
. In France FebruaryZ, 1931 14 Claims.v (Cl. 132-73) The present invention relates to` manicuring sets, and has for its object a manicure set foldable and containing all utensils necessary for the toilet of hands.
' 5 It is a further object of the invention to provide a manicuring set which may Vbe Vfolded together in a compact manner` and when opened serves as a buier.
The buffer comprisesY two shells connected to "16 each other by an appropriate articulation and containing on one of their sides a polishing surface, which buiier isv foldable for shipment, and when unfolded theY polishing surfaces of both shells are in one plane.
*175* It is also an object of the invention to secure l2() theseshells forms a cover connected to said shell by an appropriate hinge, there being compartments provided in the interior of this shell for containing pastes, powder and so on. It is also an object of the invention to provide a cap hingedly connected to the inner end of one of the shells, which cap constitutes a handle and also serves as acover for the open inner end of the other shell. f It is also an object of the invention to provide certain details of construction and arrangement tending to enhance the utility and desirability of a device of the character described.
With these and other equally important objects in view which will become apparent from a perusal of the invention, the latter comprises the means described in the followingspecification,v particularly pointed out in the claims forming a part thereof, andillustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a manicuring set unfolded for use as a buiier.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view Vfrom the bottom side of the device, disclosing the means for'securing the polishing skin.
Fig. 3 is a perspective v view of the 4device in folded position with the cap tilted to afford access to the interior of one shell.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the folded de-v 'of vice, with the cover of 'one shell opened disclosing an inner compartment in the shell and a with a cuticle stick held thereby in operative position. Y
The manicure case, according to the invention, comprises two shells 1 and 2, (Figs. 1 and 2) articulated at 3 and 4 to a central rod 5. On the same articulations Yare pivotally Ysecured two plates 6 and '7, to which a polishing skin 8 is se-Y cured.
In order Vto facilitate securing of this skin, the plates 6 and 7 are provided with lateral teeth 9 penetrating into the skin and preventing the same -from detaching itself from these plates.V A sponge of india-rubber or other soft `material serves as stufng means Vfor the polishing skin 8 to maintain the same under tension. Y l
The plate 6 rests on the bottom 1a with down wardly projecting prongs.V A Y The other plate? rests on an intermediate plate 11 fixed in theshell 2.
The plate 6 is kept in the shell 1 by the friction of the tongue 10d against the lrim of this shell.V
The plate 7 is held in place Aby a` small pin l2 penetrating into an aperture 13 provided in this plate. The two shells can be folded together as shown in Fig. 4, andcan be closed in this position by means of a latch 14 (Fig. 1) articulated to the shell 2 and engaging over a pin 15 provided on the shell 1, the two shells being kept parallel to each other bythe engagement Aof the pin Y12 with the plate 6.
On opening the case, the same may beused as a buierg(Fig.1). i
A cap 16 is articulated to the shell 2, and is provided Vwith a cover 17 and with several compartments 18 rcontaining products necessary for the care of nails or of the skin. This cap serves as a handle in manipulating the unfolded case pin can engage two holes 22 and 23 provided in the wall of the shell 1, and serves to `maintain the case rigid in open position when used as a buffer, the pin engaging for this purpose the hole 22. VWhen the shells are superposed, the pin 21 enters the opening 23 to secure the shells in compact arrangement. 4
The cap 16 is articulated'at 24 to the shell 2 (Fig. 3), in such manner that it uncovers the space provided between the bottom 1a of the shell 1, and the plate 6. This space is utilized for lodging therein thedifferent utensils such as the ilo nail le 25, the cuticle stick 26, the scissors 27, and so on.
The shell 2 is provided with a cover 28 pivotally secured at 29 and uncovering the space formed by the lateral walls ofthe shell and by the intermediate plate 11. In this space is provided a small compartment 30 closed by a cover 31.
These spaces are destined to receive cosmetics such as the lip stick, the powder and puff, and so on.
'I'he case can be constructed in such manner as to serve as a handle for the manicure utensils. For this purpose, the plate 7 is a little shorter and the intermediate plate l1 carriestwo pins 32 engaging holes provided in the tools, such as the nail le 25, in the cuticle stick 26 and so on.
It is obvious that the manicuring case, as described, permits manifold modications, both with regard to the general arrangement and to the details. Y
It permits any outer decoration, of another number and arrangement of the diiferent compartments, and so on.
