PORTABLE BATHING oUTFIT Filed DSC. 17, 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 @1&4 @00mm/@wm patented May 1934 PANT FFECE 3 Claims.
The invention has relation to a portable bath outt, adapted for use on the farm or in rural homes where there is no water service, or by the automobile tourist, being complete in itself and i requiring no plumbing or other work.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating an embodiment of the invention,
Figure 1 is a central vertical section of the invention, with parts in full lines.
Figure 2 is a side view of the invention, hung from a support.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3 3, Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a detail plan view of the needle spray.
Figure 5 is a detail side view of the bath brush spray.
In these drawings, the numeral 1 designates a vertical casing, open at the top, and 2 is a water reservoir, located above and spaced from the casing by an interval 2b, and of the same diameter as that of said casing. Located within I the casing is a water heating coil 3. Connection means are provided between the casing and the reservoir, adapted to support the reservoir above the casing in the spaced relation stated and to support said coil, comprising spaced standards la, located within and secured to the inner wall of the casing and having shoulders 1c engaging said coil, said standards having an upper spider frame 1b, having radial arms connecting the standards and located in register with said interval and provided with a center ring, said reservoir resting upon said spider frame, and said coil having an upper terminal portion 4, engaging said ring and an opening in the bottom of the reservoir. 'Ihe spaces between the radial arms of the spider '40. frame 1b are in register with and have communication with the interval 2b, between casing and reservoir, whereby the fumes from a heater below the coil may have outlet through said interval via said spaces.
This coil 3 has a lateral outlet pipe 5 at the lower end thereof, extending through a lateral perforation 6 of said casing and being provided with a control valve 7. The cold water tank 2 has also a lateral outlet or feed pipe 8, and a pipe 9 connects the two outlet pipes for hot and cold water, being provided with a control valve 10, located adjacent to the valve 7, within convenient reach of the bather. The lower outlet pipe 5 has an extension beyond the connection pipe 9 wherein will interin'xthe hot andcold water according to the adjustment of the control valves or wherein hot water or cold water may be fed, should one or the other of the valves be closed. The extension pipe is provided with a nozzle or end 10', adapted for connection of a suitable fitting to spray the water upon the bather, the fittings being interchangeable as will be obvious. The fitting may be a shower fitting 18, a needle spray such as shown in Figure 4 or a bath brush spray as in Figure 5.
The casing 1 is provided with a lower door or doors 1l provided with suitable Vent holes 12, a burner or burners 13 for heating the coil being located in the lower part of the casing below the coil. A feed pipe 14 for gasoline or the like fuel has a lateral extension 15 through a perforation of the casing to a fuel tank 16 having a fuel feed control valve 17. The fuel tank is supportable upon an outward extension 17a of the floor of the casing 1, and the fuel valve 17, is located adjacent the hot and cold water control valves 7 and 10, thereby facilitating the contro-l of the entire outfit. The door is provided with hinges located upon the opposite side of the casing to that of the fuel tank, so that the opening of the door will not be interfered with by the several feed pipes.
In Figure 1 of the drawings, the outfit is shown as supported upon a light portable table, the legs of which are provided with casters, whereas in Figure 2 the outfit is shown as hung from the top of a tent or other shelter by means of a hook and bail, which makes necessary a soldering or other connection between the bottom of the reservoir 2 and the spider frame 1b.
In use, the bather stands below the shower or other fitting in a pan 19 provided with drain holes or drain pipe connection.
The fuel feed pipe preferably passes over the burners 13 to facilitate vaporization, and the burner 13 is provided with a small receptacle or spoon below the same for raw gasoline, which is ignited to facilitate starting the burner.
The cold water tank 2 is preferably made of light sheet tin, galvanized iron, or aluminum, whereas the casing l may be made of black sheet iron painted or not as desired.
I claim:
1. In a portable bathing outfit, the combination of a lower open-top casing, an upper water reservoir spaced from said casing, a water heating coil within said casing having communication with said reservoir, means for heating said coil, a supporting frame connecting said casing and said reservoir including a skeleton top member having arms, the spaces between said arms providing communication between the interior and the exterior of the casing, and means secured to said reservoir whereby the entire device may be suspended from said reservoir.
2. In a portable bathing outt, the combination of an open-top casing, a water reservoir spaced above said casing, a Water heating coil Within said casing having communication with said reservoir, means for heating said coil, a supporting frame connecting said casing and said reservoir including spaced standards secured to` said casing and extending thereabove and a spider frame having radial arms connecting the upper extremities of said standards and secured to said reservoir, the spaces between said radial arms providing communication between the interior and the exterior of said casing, and means secured to said reservoir whereby the entire device may be suspended from said reservoir.
3. In a portable bathing outt, the combination of an open-top casing, a water reservoir spaced above and of a diameter the same as that of said casing, a water heating coil within said casing having communication with said reservoir, means for heating said coil, a supporting frame connecting the casing and the reservoir including spaced standards secured to the casing and extending thereabove and a spider frame having radial arms connecting the upper extremities of said standards, said standards having shoulders engaging and supporting said coil, the spaces between said radial arms providing communication between the interior and the exterior of said casing, and means secured to said reservoir whereby the entire device may be suspended from said reservoir.
