Description
April 17, 1934- c. s. MOECKEL 1,955,509
DISPLAY STAND Filed April 21, 1955 Patented Apr. 17, 1934 DISPLAY STAND Clarence S. Moeckel, Atlanta, Ga., assignor to Southern Spring Bed a corporation of Geor Company, Atlanta, Ga.,
Application April 21, 1933, Serial No. 667,296 1 Claim. (Cl. 211-85) The principal object of this invention is to provide an improved stand for displaying packages of merchandise that is of a simplified structure and can be collapsed into a small space for shipment or storage.
Other objects and features of novelty will be apparent from the description taken in connection with the drawing in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevaiion with parts broken away, showing the stand in collapsed position;
Figure 3 is a sectional tail; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of another form of the invention. f
Referring to the drawing, the stand comprises a frame consisting of the substantially upright side members 10 and 11 connec ed by the transverse top member 12. Preferably this frame is made from a single piece of angle iron bent into the shape shown. The members 10 and 11 are reversely disposed so far as the angles of the angle irons are concerned, that is to say, the
rearwardly projecting legs of the angles are on the outer sides of the frame and the front legs are in the same plane and project toward each other.
This frame is divided into substantially rectan- 30 gular frame openings by cross bars or rests 13,
5 an easel support is provided.
these bars being secured to the side bars and 11 as by riveting. Located above each of the cross bars 13 are U-shaped members 14 having their free ends 15 pivoted at 16 to the inner sides 35 of the rearwardly extending legs of the side members 10 and 11. The free ends 17 of these U-members abut the inner surface of the front legs of the angle irons so that the members 14 are thus prevented from swinging downwardly. The upper corners 18 are rounded to permit these members to swing upwardly into the plane of the frame.
For the purpose of holding the frame in a position slightly inclined with respect to the vertical, As shown, this consists of a U-shaped bar having side members 19 and 20 and a connecting bottom member 21. The free ends of the side members 19 and 20 are pivoted at 22 to the outer sides of the main frame. If desired, the corners of the U-shaped member may Ire/reinforced by the braces 23 and 24. To hold the easel support in proper position relative to the frame, the bars 25 are provided which are pivoted at 26 to the outer sides 5 of the members 19 and 20. These bars are formed backwardly by the elevation showing a deZ-i with hooked ends 27 which are adapted to hook over bolts 28 projecting inwardly from the side legs of the members 10 and 11. If desired, the frame may be provided with the bolt holes 31 for securing advertising cards to the top of the frame.
The packages to be displayed are stood upon the cross bars 13 and held against falling out U-members 14. A series of packages on the top bar 13 is shown in dotted lines, and it will be noted that a single pivoted U-member l4 relains several packages.
In order to collapse the stand for shipment or storage, the U-members 14 are swung upwardly into the plane of the frame. Then the bars 25 are unhooked and allowed to swing downwardly to a vertical position. Thereafter the easel sup.- port is swung substanlially into the plane of the frame. It will be noted that the collapsed frame has substantially no greater thickness than the thickness of the side members 10 and 11.
Figure 4 illustrates what may be termed a double stand. It comprises the side members 10 and 11 which are like the ones already described in connection with Figure 1 but have in addition .sh'ort horizontal extensions 29 and 30, respectively, at their upper ends. The second display stand has side members 10 and 11 like the members 10 and 11, and these are pivoted at their upper ends to the free ends of the horizontal extensions 29 and 30.
Both frames are provided with cross bars 13 and pivoted U-shaped retaining members 14, the same as in the form of the invention shown in Figure 1.
To hold the twoframes in inclined positions, the bars 25 are' provided, which are pivoted at 26 to the side members of one frame and have hooked ends taking over the bolts 28 on the other frame. When these bars are unhooked and the U-shaped retaining members 14 swung upwardly into the planes of their respective frames, the two frames can be swung toward each other and thus occupy a relatively small space for storage or for shipment.
The extensions 29 and 30 may be provided with short uprights 32 to support a card carrying advertising or other display matter.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
A display stand comprising, in combination, a
