1 Claim. (01. 122- 494) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in heating devices, and particularly to supplemental jackets for use in connection with the ordinary types of hot water, and steam 5 boiler heaters, now installed in dwellings, apart- 1! connection with the accompanying drawings.

Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, there is shown a hot water furnace, to represented as a whole by the numeral 10, including the base or ash-pit portion 11, the combustion chamber 12, seated thereon and surrounded by the water chamber 13, in which is a fire door 14 and the clean out opening 15, the {I former of which is sealed. The furnace is also provided with the usual outflow pipe 16, in the top thereof, and the return pipe 17, for circulating the water through a system of radiators (not shown).

Connected to the return pipe 17, outwardly of the furnace, and leading through the side wall of the ash-pit is a pipe 20, said pipe having 65 a plurality of branches 21, within the said ashpit, and extending upwardly therefrom, as clearly seen in the sectional view, Figure 2. Connected to each of these branches is an upwardly extending water coil member 22, which consists of the central core portion 23, and the surround 60 ing spiral rib 24. The upper end of each of these coils 22, as clearly illustrated, has connected thereto a pipe 25, which leads outwardly through the front of the furnace, and thence upwardly, where it is connected, in the proper manner, 66 to the outflow pipe 16, for conveying the heated water to radiators, (not shown).
Suitably mounted below the coil members 22 is a gas burner, indicated as a whole by "the numeral 26, and comprising the hollow ring 27, 10 provided with the laterally extending pipe 28, forconveying gas thereto, and the plurality offbairs of converging burner tips 29.
It will be understood that the gas burner heats the Water in the water chamber, so that 15 said water will circulate out through the pipe 16, to the radiators, and back to the chamber by means of the return pipe 17. By reason of the connections between the coil members 22, and the pipes 16 and 17, water will circulate through 80 the said coil members, thereby adding to the amount of water flowing through the pipes, and to the speed of flow thereof. Furthermore, the fact that the clean-out opening is directly connected with the jacket 18, the fumes rising from the combustion chamber, and escaping through said opening, into the jacket, will provide a. surrounding heating means for assisting in maintaining the exterior of the furnace in a heated condition, and thereby the water within said N chamber. The water chamber is thus heated both from within and from without the furnace.
The invention is adapted for us in connection with a steam boiler furnace, with equal facility and results. 16
When the jacket is to be applied to a furnace which is angular in cross section, the channeled band 30, is employed, said band being formed in sections, as shown, and connected together by means of the slot and bolt means 31. The band 1.00 is provided with a plurality of openings 32, 'to which the lower edge of the jacket 33 is bolted or riveted. The sections of the band are bent, intermediate their lengths, to fit snugly the corners of the body of the furnace. 10
What is claimed is:
A furnace boiler including a combustion chamber, a water chamber surrounding, said combustion chamber, a jacket surrounding said water chamber in spaced relation thereto and having 1 so u in over-lapping relation and bolts extending through slots in the ends of the sections adjustably securing them together, whereby said supporting ring may be securely clamped around the furnace body.
