Description

Jfw. 'r. iE'LTIER & T. 1:. BROWN.
COPY-HOLDERS.
No. 195,043. Patented. sew-11,1877.
UNITED STATES FFICE.
JAMES W. T. PELTIER AND TIMOTHY D. BROWN, OF KNOXVILLE, TENN.
IMPROVEMENT IN COPY-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,043, dated September 11, 1877; application filed June 30, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES W. T. PEL- TIER and TIMOTHY D. BROWN, of Knoxville, Knox county, Tennessee, have invented a new and useful improvement for holding manuscript and. copy for a printers case or desk, and for general copying purposes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of our device, with aportion in section. Fig. 2 is a detail view, showing the arrangement of the clamp and its spring, and the manner in which it is pivoted to the base-board of the holder.
Like letters refer to like parts in both figures of the drawing.
The object of our device is to provide a means of supporting copy before a compositor in such a manner that access to the different compartments of the type-case shall not be obstructed, while the copy shall be held in a convenient position before the compositor. The device is also applicable to all copying purposes where the subject to be copied is to be held before the workman, and is adjustable in such manner that such subject can be presen ted in differentangles, and may be removed with facility to allow the placing of a different copy.
A is a support, slotted at H, its lower end. for the purpose of adapting it to be attached to the partitions of any ordinary type-case. This support is provided with a mortise for the sector 0, which passes through it, and can be retained at any desired point within its movement in the mortise by means of the setscrew D. One end of the sector 0 is fixed in any ordinary manner to the base-board B, which base-board is hinged to the support A at E.
The base-board B is provided with a metal clip or clamp, F, extending entirely across the base-board, and pivoted to its edges by means of a screw or pin, I, passing through downe ned, and the base-board swung upon its hinge.
E until its surface lies in the desired plane, and is retained in such position by tightening the set-screw D. Pressure is applied to the upper edge of the clamp, and the copy inserted between such clamp and the face of the baseboard. When pressure is removed from the clamp the spring causes it to hold the copy to the board.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, the copyholder herein described, consisting of the sup port A and the base-board B, the latter provided with the sector 0, pivoted clamp F, spring G, and hinge E, as shown.
