The invention relates to new and usefui improvements in a container, and more particularly -to a container which is adapted to be used for dredging or sowing grass seed.
g An object of the invention is to provide a structure wherein an even flow o the seed from the container may be obtained merely through a shaking of the container when it is inverted.
A further object of the invention is to provide a container of the above type with means for closing the opening through which the seed is discharged.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a container of the above type which is provided with means independent of the dredging means for permitting the filling and refilling of the container.

In carrying out the invention, the body portion, preferably of cylindrical form, is constructed, and the end member is permanently attached to one end of the body portion. This end member is provided with a central opening. This is the dredging end of the container, and detachably connected thereto is a dredging cover having a series of dredging openings out of alinement with the opening in the end oi" the container. The end of the container is raised to provide an annular recess extending all the way around the container adjacent the peripheral portion thereof. A sealing sir is placed against this end in contact therewith and overlying the wall of the container body, and the cover clamps the sealing dskvin place. The sealing disk may be readily removed and the cover again attached, andthe container is tLe-i. in condition for. dredging or sowing the seed. Referring more in detail to the drawing, theA body portion is indicated at 1. Said body portion is provided with a bead 2 adjacent its upper 5' end, and the wall of the body above the bead has .impressed therein thread's, 3. These threads project outwardly. The upper end of the body wall is curled as indicated at 4. The end enclosure 5 is constructed so as to provide a vertical 35 wall 6 with an outwardly projecting fiange '1 at the upper and thereof, and this wall, and flange are so dimensioned as to overlie the rolled edge of the body portion of the container. The iiange 7 is soldered to the body portion of the con- 70 tainer. It will be understood, however, that thisA end 5 may be otherwise secured to the container body. The end portion has a raised central dome-shaped part, the peripheral wall 8 of which e is spaced away from the vertical wall 6, thus forming an` annular recess or pocket 9. The end has an opening 10 formed therethrough.
A cover 11 is provided with a depending skirt 12 and threads 13, 13 are formed in the skirtso as to project linwardly therefrom. These so threads are adapted to cooperate with the threadsA 3 on the container for securing the cover to the container. There is a series of ribs 14 on the container associated with each thread 3, and also a series of detents 15 formed in the skirt which slip 85 over these ribs 14 and thus serve as a frictional locking means for holding the cover on the container. The cover. is provided with a series of openings 16, 16. These openings as shown in the drawing, are out of alinement with the opening 9G the contents of the container is discharged when the container is inverted.
A sealing or closing disk, preferably of paper, is indicated at 17. This disk is so dirnensioned and shaped as to Contact with the central raised portion of the end 5, and also overlies the flange 7. The cover has a depressed portion 18 formed adjacent the peripheralv edge thereof, which provides a recess on the inside of the cover that is adapted to engage this sealing disk and rmly lo@ clamp the same against the iiange 7. This depressed portion 18 contacting with the disk will also force the same tight against the raised portion of the end 5, and this will seal the opening 10 so as to prevent any discharge of the contents 105 of the container therethrough. This disk is used for closing the container for sale purposes or for storage purposes. It is, however, removed when the container is used for dredging.
The lower end of the body portion 1 is prow 21 provided with a skirt 22 which also has threads are of the structure and for the purpose described in connection with the cover 11. .The extreme lower edge of the body is curled in a similar manner to the curling of the upper edge. The purpose of this detachable end is to enable the container to be filled and refilled through the lower end thereof.
The operation of the dredging container is thought to be obvious. The lower end is removed and the container is filled with the seed that is to be dredged or sowed. The lower end is then connected to the body portion, closing the same. The paper seal is removed and the container is inverted, and with a slight shaking of the container the seed will pass through the openings 16 under control, as to quantity, and well distributed. This makes an excellent container for sowing grass seed. The seed passing through the central opening 10 will strike against the closed central portion of the cover 11 and move outward and be discharged through the openingsI 16. The seed will also work outward into the pocket or recess 9 as the container is shaken and moved from vertical position without restricting the passage of the seed through the openings, and any seed accumulating in the recess will pass out through the openings as the container is changed from one angular position to another, due to the shaking thereof. `W`nen the container is empty, the end 21 is removed and it is relled. It is not necessary to replace the seal for refilling purposes, as the seed will not iiow from the container through the dredging openings unless it is shaken. When the container stands in vertical position, inverted, the imperforate portion of the cover 11 is of suicient extent to prevent the seed from passing out through the openings 16.
While the invention is described as of particular advantage in the dredging or sowing of seed, it will be understood that it may be used for other purposes.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters- Patent, is-
1. A container including in combination a body portion, an end member permanently attached thereto and having a depression therein forming a vertical peripheral wall extending into the body portion of the container, said end member having a central raised portion spaced from the vertical wall so as to provide an annular recess or pocket, said end member having a central dredging opening therethrough, a cover having a depending skirt removably connected to said container body. said cover having a central inlperforate portion directly opposed to the opening in the end member, and dredging openings located out of alinement with said opening in the end member, s aid the container. except when said container is shaken.

A container including in combination a body portion, an end member permanently attached thereto and having a depression therein forming a vertical peripheral wall extending into the body of the container, said end member having a central raised portion spaced from the vertical wall so as to provide an annular recess or pocket, said end member having a dredging opening therethrough, a cover removably connected to said container, said container having an imperforate portion directly opposed to the opening in the end member and dredging openings located out of alignment with the opening in the end member, said openings in the cover being disposed end member so as to restrain the free *low of the contents of the container except when said container is shaken.
