5 Claims.
The invention relates to picture frames and has for one of its objects to provide an improved picture frame so constructed that it provides for ready insertion or removal of a picture. Another object is to so construct the picture frame that it eliectively holds the picture in place when inserted. A further object is to so construct the picture frame that it embraces the picture at its opposite sides, as well as its opposite edges.
These and other objects of the invention will become apparent from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of a picture frame showing an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is an edge elevation thereof;
Figure 3 is a plan view thereof;
Figure 4 is an enlarged cross section on the line 4.4 of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is a cross section on the line 5-5 of Figure 4;
Figure 6 is a side elevation of a picture frame showing another embodiment of my invention;
Figure '7 is an edge elevation thereof;
Figure 8 is an enlarged cross section on the line 88 of Figure 7;
Figures 9 and 10 are cross sections on the lines 9--9 and 10-10 respectively of Figure 8.
As shown in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive, the picture frame comprises the base 1 and the cooperating frame members 2 and 3 mounted upon this base. The base is a suitable molded mat rial and comprises the circular portion 4 and the extension 5, both of which are preferably hollow.
The frame member 2 has the base portion 6 which extends longitudinally of the extension 5 and radially of the circular portion 4 and is permanently secured to the base by suitable means, such as the screws '7. This base portion 6 is provided with the laterally extending grooved portion 8 and the vertically extending grooved po tion 9 at the inner end or the grooved portion 8. The base of the grooved portion 8 is provided with the longitudinally extending slot 10 and the top of the circular portion e is provided with the slot 11 which registers with the slot 10, but is preferably of greater width. The frame member 2 also comprises the arcuate grooved arm 12 integral with the base portion 6 and having its groove opening into the vertical grooved portion 9.
The frame member 3 has the base portion 13 which is telescopically engageable within the lateral and vertical grooved portions 8 and 9 respectively. The frame member 3 also has the arcuate pera-tion of Delaware Serial No. 614,582
(Cl. ell-143) grooved arm 14 preferably integral with the base portion 13 and of a length such that it terminates substantially vertically above the inner end of the base portion 13. The frame member 3 is adapted to be removably secured to the base 1 by suitable means, such as the shouldered screw 15, which has the enlarged cylindrical portion 16 adapted to extend through the slot 11 and abut the base of the lateral grooved portion 8 and also has the threaded portion 17 adapted to engage the base portion 13.
The lengths of the arcuate grooved arms 12 and 14 are such that they are adapted to encircle the major portion of a circular picture. Furthermore, by reason of the arms being grooved, they embrace the picture at its opposite sides, so that when the rame members are secured to the base they cooperate to effectively hold the picture in place and position this picture upon the base. This picture comprises the pair of circular glasses 18 and the photograph 19 therebetween, the edges of the glasses being preferably beveled and the grooves in the arcuate arms 12 and l i being also beveled, so that when the frame members are clamped in place the arms tend to tightly clamp the glasses upon the photograph. It is apparent that instead of one photograph being used, two opposed or oppositely facing photographs may be placed between the glasses.
Figures 6, l, 8 and 9 disclose another modificalon in which 2G is the hollow base formed of a suitable molded material and 21 and 22 are the cooperating frame members. The frame member 21 has the lateral and upright channel-shaped or grooved portions 23 and 24 respectively, and this frame member is permanently secured to the base 26 by suitable means, such as the screws 25, which extend through the top of the base and are threaded into the bottom of the channelshaped portion 23. The frame member 22 has the lateral and upright chanuel-shaped or grooved portions 26 and 2'! respectively with the portion 25 of a size to telescopically engage within the lateral channel-shaped portion 23. The side we 5 of this channel-shaped portion 23 are formed with the horizontal shoulders 28 extending longitudinally thereof which are adapted to engage and support the lateral channel-shaped portion The base of the lateral grooved portion 23 is provided with the longitudinally extending slot 29 and the top of the base 20 is provided with the registering slot 30 and the frame member 22 is adapted to be removably secured in place by suitable means, such as the screw 31 which extends upwardly through the slots and threadedly engages the base of the lateral grooved portion 26. With this construction it will be seen than the frame members cooperate to embrace the picture at its opposite edges to position the same upon the base. It will also be seen that each of these frame members embrace the picture at its opposite edges, so that they effective- 1y hold the picture in place.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A picture frame, comprising a base, a frame member secured to said base and provided with a channel-shaped portion, and a second frame member movably secured to said base and having a portion slidably engageabIe with said channelshaped portion.
2. A picture frame comprising a base, a frame member secured to said base and provided with a channel-shaped portion, a second frame member movably secured to said first frame and base and siidably engageable with said channel-shaped portion, said frames being provided with cooperating grooved portions for embracing a picture at its opposite edges and sides.
3. A picture frame comprising a base, a frame member secured to said base and provided with a channel-shaped portion, a second frame member movably secured to said base and slidably engageable with said channel-shaped portion, said frames being provided with cooperating grooved portions offset from said channel-shaped portion for embracing a picture at its opposite edges and its sides.
4. A picture frame comprising a base, a frame member fixedly secured to said base having a horizontal guiding portion, a second frame member having a portion slidably engageable with said guiding portion, means for adjustably securing said second frame along said guiding portion, and cooperating grooved portions in said frames offset from said guiding portion to embrace a picture at its opposite edges and position the same upon said base.
5. A picture frame, comprising a base and relatively movable frame members supported on said base, each of said frame members having arcuate grooved portions for receiving a circular picture, said arcuate portions being substantially contiguous in frame engaging adjustment and embracing more than one-half of the circumference of the picture to position the same upon the base and prevent removal therefrom.
