This invention relates to card playing apparatus and associated indicator scoring means, such apparatus being adapted when a player, by means of a ball projected towards a plunger and strikes such plunger to be operated, whereby an indication will be given as to the playing of any particular card of a series thereof arranged in association with the apparatus.

Means are also provided for resetting of the operated indicating mechanism and also for adjusting parts of the apparatus to enable handicapping of players.

Referring to the accompanying drawings in which the invention is illustrated, Fig. l is a perspective View of the apparatus; Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof; Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation on line 33, Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail View of the trigger operating mechanism; and Fig. 5 is a diagrammatic view illustrating indicating means utilizable in the handicapping of players.

The apparatus is provided with a suitable housing 1 which is furnished with a circular opening 2 in which is rotatably mounted a flanged disc 3. Such disc 3 is appropriately secured to a hub 4 (see Fig. 3) which is rotatably mounted on a horizontally disposed spindle 5 which is rigidly affixed to a vertically disposed standard 6 which is secured to the housing 1. Disc 3 is adapted to be driven continuously or intermittently by any suitable means, say by an electric motor 8 (see Fig. .2) the shaft of which has an endless belt 9 which passes over a pulley 10 on a spring controlled radial bracket 11, the latter being fulcrumed in the bracket 12 fixed to the housing 1. On the spindle 14 for the pulley 10 is a friction wheel 15 which is adapted to be held in contact with the flange 17 of the disc -3 through the expansible spring 19 which controls 0 movement of the radial bracket 11; when the friction wheel 15 is set in motion through operation of the motor 8, motion will be imparted to the flanged disc '3.

Upon the outer face of the disc 3 are suitably mounted (see Fig. 1) a plurality of playing cards 20, which may be ordinary playing cards, or which may be any other preferred cards with suitable markings thereon.

In the outer face of the disc 3 in radial alignment with the cards 20 and corresponding in number thereto, are a plurality of spy holes 22, through which an indicating mark 21 on separate indicators 23 may be made visible.

v Mounted radially upon the inner face of the disc 3 (see Figs. 2 and 3) are a plurality of slidable indicators 23 which are juxtaposed in radial alignment with the spy holes 22. The indicators 23 are slidable in the keepers 24 which are secured to the inner face of the disc 3, such indicators being adapted to pass through separate openings 25 therefor (see Fig. 3) in the flange 17 of the disc 3. Each indicator 23 is provided with a latch hook 27 which is adapted to engage in certain circumstances with the flange 17 of the disc 3. Each indicator 23 is not only slidably mounted in its keeper 24 but it is also oscillatable through a control leaf spring 28 each of the latter being anchored to a pin 29 which is rigidly secured to the separate indicators 23. Each of the pins 29 passes through and projects forwardly {from the radial slots 30 in the disc 3, whereby the separate indicators 23 may thereby be manually operated.

Each indicator 23 is provided with an expansible control spring 32; each of the springs 32 is anchored to a pin 34 attached to the hub 4 and the disc 3 (see Fig. 3). Each of the indicators 23 is also furnished with a pointed foot 35 (see Fig. 4) which is adapted to make engagement with the pointed hook 36 on a bracket 33,

adjustably secured to the trigger 37 by milled nut 42. of the nut 42 is a bracket 44 having at its foot a roller 45; the latter is adapted to roll upon the upper face of the plunger 47, which is slidable in the bracket 48 which is secured to the standard 6. Plunger 4'7 is controlled by the compressible coil spring 49, and it is fitted with oppositely disposed pairs of lugs 51 (see Fig. 4) to each pair of which is pivoted one end of a link rod 52.

The other end of the respective link rods 52 is pivotally connected to one end of a crank arm 54, the other end of such arms being fixed to the horizontally disposed spindles 57 which are secured in bearings 58 and 59 of the brackets 60 and 48 respectively. Each spindle 57 is provided with a slotted radial arm 61, each of the said arms being adapted to engage with a lug 62 on each of the blocks 63 which carry indicating pointers 64; the pointers 64 are adapted to register with a scale 65 which is mounted on the front of the housing 1 (see Figs. 1 and 5). The blocks 63 are Associated with the cooperating screw =9 slidably mounted on the rod 67 and are controlled by the respective springs 68.

In operation, when the apparatus has been placed on a table 70 (see Fig. 1) or other suitable support, a player may operate the ball 40 by means of a cue or the like. Upon rotation of the disc 3, should the players ball 40 on being operated by him, strike the knob 41 the trigger 37 will be operated and thus release the indicator 23, which is situated above the knob 41 when such knob has been struck.

Such indicator 23 when its latch hook 27 has become disengaged from the flange 17 of the disc 3 will be operated by its coil spring 32 (see released position, Fig. 3). When the said indicator 23 has reached its released position, the mark 21 on said indicator 23 will be visible through its spy hole 22, ihus indicating the card 20 which has been played. To replace the said indicator 23 to its original position its projection 29 is manually operated, whereby its latch hook 27 will re-engage with the flange 17.

To handicap a player it is only necessary to adjust .the hook 36 in relation to the pointed foot 35; by lowering the hook 36 through operation of the nut 42 there is less chance of such hook 36 striking the foot 35 of an indicator 23, as the width of surface contact with the hook 36 is reduced. When such adjustment is made the indi- -cating fingers 6s will be brought closerv together on the scale, through the operation ofrthe plunger 47 and the spindles 5'7; the player has.

thus conveyed to him information as to the amount of surface contact on the hook 36 available to him in relation to the pointed foot 35.

By adjusting the hook 36 to a lower position the bracket 44 with its roller 45 depresses the plunger 47 which operates the links 52, crank arms 54, spindles 5'7, and slotted radial arms 61, whereby the blocks 63 carrying the indicating fingers 64 are moved towards one another.

By lifting the hook 36 the indicating fingers 64 will be spread further apart.

What we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-

1. Card playing apparatus and associated score indicating means comprising a housing, a rotatable flanged disc within said housing, a series of cards on the face of said disc, a series of spring Icontrolled indicators one for each said cards and slidably and oscillatably mounted on the rear of said disc, the said indicators having pointed ends projecting through openings in the flange of said disc and also having a latch hook to engage with said flange, resetting pins for said indicators projecting through openings in the said disc, a spring controlled plunger operable by impact, and means associated with said plunger whereby upon operation the indicator then opposite the plunger will be operated to release the latch hook to permit the indicator to slide in the opening, to indicate, through a peep-hole in said disc, the particular card to which said indicator relates.

2. Card playing apparatus and associated score indicating means according to claim 1, in which the means associated with the spring controlled plunger comprises a pivoted trigger to which is adjustably connected a hook adapted to engage with any of the spring controlled indicators to release the latch hook thereof.

3. Card playing apparatus and associated indicator scoring means as claimed in claim 1, in which the flanged disc is fixed to a hub rotatably mounted on a spindle which is secured to the housing, the said hub being suitably connected to a source of power. a

Card playing apparatus and associated score indicating means as claimed in claim 1, in which the flanged disc is fixed to a hub rotatably mounted on a spindle which is secured to the housing, and a spring controlled pivoted arm carrying a rotatable wheel which is adapted to frictionally engage the flanged disc for the purpose of rotating same.

5. Card playing apparatus and associated score indicating means comprising a housing, a rotatable flanged disc within said housing, a series of cards on the face of said disc, a series of spring controlled indicators one for each said cards and slidably and oscillatably mounted on ihe rear of said disc, the said indicators having pointed ends projecting through openings in the flange of said disc and also having a latch hook to engage with said flange, resetting pins for said indicators projecting through openings in the said disc, a spring coni rolled plunger operable by impact, and means associated with said plunger whereby upon operation the indicator then opposite the plunger will be operated to release the latch hook to permit the indicator to slide in the opening, to indicate, through a peep-hole in said disc, the particular card to which said indicator relates, said last mentioned means comprising a trigger and a hook adjustably connected to said trigger, said hook being adapted to engage with any of the spring controlled indicators to release the latch hook thereof, and further means associated with the said spring con relied plunger for adjusting the clearance between the trigger hook and the indicator, the latter means comprising manually adjustable pointers registering with a marked scale on the front of the housing.
