This invention relates to improvements in shutters for radiator enclosures. f
More specically, my invention relates to a shutter which is arranged to close the louvers in the front plate of a recessed radiator enclosure,
5 easily adjusted to regulate the circulation of air through the enclosure.
Other objects will appear from the following specification in which I will describe the invention, the speciflc features of which will be pointed out in appended claims.
Referring to the drawing,
Fig.`1 is a front elevation of a part of a room with the usual type of a recessed radiator enclosure with my invention applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the parts shown inFig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation on a larger scale of the upper part of the front plate and my improved shutter; and
Fig. 4 isv a front elevation on the same scale as Fig. 3 of a part of the adjusting mechanism.
In Figs. 1 and 2, 10 designates a window under which is a recess 11 for a radiator 12. 13 is a boxlike lining for the enclosure and over the front or open side thereof is a front plate 14. 15 is a longitudinal flange near the lower edge of the front plate, which with the adjacent part of the front plate forms a groove into which ts an upstanding flange 16 or angle iron projecting from the lower front edge of the lining 13. At the top the lining is shown as bent upward, as at 17, at its front edge, to form with a transverse member 18 an upper groove for supporting the upper edge of the front plate.
The front plate is shown with a lower row 19 of louvers for air intake andan upper row 20 of louvers for air outlet. It is also shown with an opening having a hinged cover 21 to give access to the radiator valve 22. y
The parts thus far specifically pointed out form no part of my invention and can be, of course, of widely diierent forms, designs and constructions.
According to my invention, I provide a panlike shutter 30, the back of which is closed and the edges of which abut against the rear surface of the iront plate when it is in the position shown in i'ull lines in Fig. 3. The upper edge of this shutter is transversely curved into a semi-circular form. as at 31, and this upper edge is supported upon the iront plate by a hinge 32. A
Such front plates transverse rod 33 ts into this curved edge of the shutter. A threaded nut 34 depends from rod 33 and an adjusting screw 35 is in threaded engagement with it. The screw 35 has a reduced end 36 extending through and rotatable in an opening in the front plate 14. A
A knob or handle 37 is secured to the end 36 by a set screw 38 which extends through a sleeve 39.
A bearing plate 40 at the inner end of the sleeve is secured to the outer surface of plate 14 and the shoulder 41 at the junction of the screw 35 and reduced end 36 is disposed adjacent the inner surface of the plate.
The screw is thus prevented from longitudinal travel in the nut and therefore as the screw is rotated the nut 34 must travel on the screw. Since the rod 33 is connected to or is integral with the nut the rod will also travel and by its engagement in the curved upper end 31 of the shutter will swing the shutter to open or closed position, as shown in dotted and full lines in Fig. 3.
From the foregoing description it will be evident that a simple and practical shutter adjustment structure has been designed and that the device will operate eiciently.
Although one speciiic embodiment of the invention has been particularly shown and described it will be understood that the invention is capable of modification and that changes in the construction and in the arrangement of the various cooperating parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, as expressed in the following claims.
What I claim is:
1. A radiator enclosure including a front plate having openings therethrough, a shutter movably mounted on the back of said plate for controlling the passage of air through said openings, and means including a screw rotatably mounted in the plate and operatable from the front of said plate and a nut on the screw for adjusting said shutter. y
2. A radiator enclosure including a front plate having openings therethrough, a shutter pivotally mounted on the back of said plate for controlling the passage o! air through said openings, and means including a screw rotatably mounted in the plate and operatable from the front of said plate and a nut on the screw for adjusting said shutter.
3. A radiator enclosure including a front plate having openings therethrough, a shutter movably mounted on the back of said plate for controlling the passage of air through said openings, and means including a screw rotatably mounted in the plate and operatable from the front of said plate and a nut on the screw and a rod carried by the nut and engaging the shutter for adjusting said shutter.
