In a surface covering for buildings, a fastening clip having a one arm longer than the other, a fastening element passing through said longer arm beyond the shorter arm foranchoring the clip to a building structure, and a sheet element having a flap folded back upon the sheet ele- U-shaped contour with fastening element, the arms of said clip being spaced apart to receive said flap after the clip has been anchored to said building structure, said clip being bendable to permit the fold to be pinched between said arms, the fastening element lying underneath said fold and the sheet element proper.
