Description
H. S. LOWRY,
l CHURNS. 194,044. PatenteaAug-14Q1e77..
Ielers and vibrating pitman in UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- HORACE S. LOWRY, OF FARMER CITY, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,044, dated August 14, 1877 application. filed November 20, 1876.
` To all lwhom it may concern:
nois, have invented a new and useful lmprovement in Churns, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view ot' churn with my improvement attached; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section of cam-wheel, with trav.-
position; Fig. 3, lid and handle to churn-box.
The cam-wheel, travelers or rollers, and vibrating pitman are all made of iron.
The object of my invention is to furnish a device by which a box or other form of churn may be easily propelled in a shaking or vibrating motion, with suilicient momentum to cause the cream to 'break into butter by the force of reaction without any dasher or other inside device, thereby doing away with anything to injure the grain or davor of the butter, and being easier cleaned than a dashchurn.
The churn may be easily moved from place to place by the rollers in the two front feet, at A in drawing, thereby forming a barrow Ehen raised by the handles at opposite end,
The cam-wheel C C is about fourteen inches in diameter, and with a wabbling motion of about three inches. It is to be, turned by a crank, D, at end of frame, and running between two small rollers, E, or travelers on the upper end of a pivoted lever or pitman, F, which is connectedvfwith a loose pin to the bottom of the churn G by another short pitman, H, of wood.
The churn I is suspended by a slide, J, between four wooden springs, K K K K, which serve the double purpose ofrelieving the jar on the frame, and catching the rebound from the crooked wheel C, thereby easing the strain on the same and allow it to revolve with less friction.
The -lid or cover to box I is to be secured by a pivoted handle latching on two sides of the box. This handle valso serves as a handle to lift the box when moved from and into position between wooden springs" K K K K. The box being loosened by removing 'I iron pins at C and R, it is then removed or placed in position by sliding out or in on the slide J, which is bolted to springs K K K K, and passes between two similar slides screwed fast to said box.
A faucet inserted at the bottom of the box L serves to draw od buttermilk or water without removing the box from the frame.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The cam-wheel C and suitable transmitting agencies, in combination with the churnbox I and springs K, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the cam wheel C, rollers E E, pivoted pitman F, short pitman H, box I, and pin-connections, to secure the results substantially as shown and described.
HORACE S; LOWRY.
