Description
native method of connecting the dumping grate pneumatic ram C arranged to push the residue Patented Dec. 19, 1933 r I i L V I I I UNITED STATES Prrrrslvr OFFICE signor to Heenan & Froude Limited, Worcester, England v i e i I Applicat icn October 14; 1931 Serial No. 568,800
' 2- ijlaims; (Cl. 110 8) This invention relates to improvements in furployed according to the size of the grate so as naces for the consumption of low grade fuel, to prevent sagging thereof. refuse and similar material, In the construction shown in Fig. 2 the lever In grates for such purpose it is usual to pro- G is fuicrumed on a rocking link or arm G and 5 vide means such as a pusher or block actuated the upper arm g of the lever G is directly conby a hydraulic ram or the like for removing the nected to the p ibl B at 17 S0 that the clinker and other residue from the grate so that 0k B po ve y t ols th mOVBmBDt 0f the it will fall into a chute arranged at the front of mp ate E in both directions. the furnace which delivers it to a conveyor or As Shown in the d w n th l nk F i p f- 10 other m'eans for transporting it away from the embly made in t\VOpa1tS,the d I being adapted furnace to be moved in relation to the end by the nut f According to the present invention a dumping SO the efiective length Of can be grate is pivotally mounted at the front of the fixed Varledgrate on to which the clinker or other residue A Stationary drying hearth H may be arranged is pushed by the pusher or block and this dumpt cover the block B when the latter is in 0 mg grate is connected by a system of levers with ts backward position and the refuse or other fuel the pusher or block so that when the latter is fed on to the drym? hearth H through the in its rearward position the dumping grate will l Openmg K the of the The be prevented from pivoting but when it is moved mylng hearth may however be Omltted when not forward the dumping grate will fall and the resi required and the side wall of the furnace line t up with the front end of the pusher. fi yg i g igg gg gg sggi fg g g i The delivery chute L to receive the residue discharged by the dumping grate is arranged below gi t to E: i f fi g zggg l the latter and is preferably closed by a pivoted to ggxgg gg g g door L operated by a handle I so that when the g0 1 t throu the fun furnace 1s operating under pressure, the pressure z 1S ransverse sec 10 g can be maintained therein. The chute L may deliver the residue to a conve r r 0t r Fig. 2 1s a transverse section showing an alterdevice for transporting it g; g iggl g When it is desired to remove the residues from 35 the furnace the ram C is operated and causes the pusher block B to move over the grate A from the position shown in full lines on the drawing to that shown in dotted lines. The movement of the pusher block B pushes the residue on to the dum in rate E. In the arran ement shown supported on the top of the duct D which supplies in Fig tgegfdrward movement i the pusher V the air for the combustion of the fuel in the block B moves the runner b out of engagement furnacelhht the ram may be supported m any with the arm 0 of the lever G so that the latter 40 other Sultabh? v is no'longer prevented from moving about its The dumplhg grate E is hmged or plvot'any pivot g to release the dumping grate E and conmounted on the rod a at the front of the fixed Sequenuy the weight of the dumping grate E and grate t formed with one or more down the residue thereon causes it to swing down into Wardly prolectlhg high or brackets e to each of the vertical position shown in dotted lines when to the pusher block.
The furnace is constructed with a fixed grate A over which a pusher block B can be moved by any mechanical means such as a hydraulic or off the grate. In the drawing the ram C is shown which is hivot'ahy Chhhected and of hhk the link F and lever G will occupy the positions the other end f1 of which is ph'ot'ahy connected also shown in dotted lines. The residue is thus to the lower end g of a two armed lever G. discharged into the chute L and canbe released In the construction shown in Fig. l the lever therefrom by the opening of the door 1 G is fulc umed t Q 011 it Stationary pa Of the On the return movement of the pusher block 50 furnace. Th Upp arm $1 of the l G B the runner b engages the arm 9' of the lever gages With a runner b 011 the p blofik B G and moves the latter over into its original which prevents movement of the lever G when the position d thi movement causes th dumpblock B is in its rearward position i. e. the posiing grate E to be raised into the horizontal posit on Sho in full lines in the drawing. tion in which it is maintained until the pusher 55 Any number of lugs or brackets e may be emblock 13 is again operated and the runner b again llo moved away from the arm 9 of the lever G to release the dumping grate.
The action of the arrangement shown in Fig. 2 is similar to that above described except that the movement of the pusher block B directly controls the movement of the dumping grate E, the rocking link G oscillating about its pivot to allow of the necessary movement of the fulcrum of the lever G.
What I claim as my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A furnace for the consumption of low grade fuel, refuse and similar material comprising in combination a fixed grate, a dumping grate pivoted to the front thereof, a pusher block for pushing the residue off the fixed grate on to the dumping grate, a ram operating the pusher block, a chute below the dumping grate to receive the clinker discharged therefrom, a link pivotally connected at one end to the underside of the dumping grate, a lever pivotally connected at one end to the other end of the link, and at its other end to the pusher block and an arm pivotally connected at one end to the furnace and at the other to a point substantially midway along the lever to positively connect the dumping grate with the pusher block.
2. A furnace for the consumption of low grade fuel refuse and similar material comprising in combination a fixed grate, a rod extending transversely of the fixed grate at the front end thereof, a dumping grate pivoted on the rod, a pusher block for pushing the residue off the fixed grate on to the dumping grate, a ram operating the pusher block, a link pivotally connected at one end to the underside of the dumping grate, a lever connected to the opposite end of the link, an arm on which the levers are mounted and projections on the pusher block engaging the pivoted lever to cause the movement of the pusher block to operate the dumping grate.
