To an whom it may concern Be itknown that we, CHARLES E. L. HoLMEs and WILLIAM E. LAWRENCE, of the city, county. and State of New York, have invented Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a specification:
The object of our invention is a brush provided with a handle, arranged as fully described hereafter, to enable the brush to be grasped in different positions.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a section, and Fig. 2 a plan view, of a brush with our improvement.
A is the back, body, or frame of the brush, constructed in any suitable manner, and having a brushing-face, B, of any desired material. O is a ring or frame of a suitable form, made of metal, hard rubber, or equivalent material, supported by standards secured to the brush,in such a position above the back as to afford a comfortable hold or grasp upon the brush at the back, the ring allowing of an easy grasp above or beneath with the brush in any position in which it may be most expedient or most comfortable to use it.
In some cases the frame or handle may be bent, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1, so as to permit the hand to pass beneath and grasp the back of the brush in the same manner as when the ordinary strap-handle is used.
It will be apparent that various modes of constructing the brush may be employed in carryingoutourinvention. Without therefore limiting ourselves to those shown and described,
We claim- A brush provided with a handle consisting of a ring, 0, supported by standards above the back of the brush, as and for the purpose set forth.
