Description

Patented Dec. 15, 1931 WILLIAM J'. STROTI-IOFF, OF MANITOWOC, WISCONSIN CONTAINER Application filed February A20, 1931. .Serial No. 517,194.
This invention relates to improvements in containers. f
One of the objects of this invention is the provision of an improved type of container 6 for holding frozen confections in refrigerators or other cooling places to thus eliminate the necessity of placing packages of frozen confections directly in the refrigerator compartment in order to keep them in proper condition.
Another object of the present invention is the provision of a container for frozen confections which is provided with a plurality of receiving compartments so that several different varieties of confections may be contained therein, and the entire device removed from or deposited within the refrigerator while one or more of the containers may be provided with removable bottom portions, so that comparatively long objects can be supported by the container when so desired.
A further object of the present invention is the provision of a container of the above type which is constructed of comparatively few parts and of such material as to produce a comparatively inexpensive article of this character for the use intended.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure l is a side elevation of a container constructed in accordance with my invention with parts thereof broken away and illustrated in cross section;
Figure 2 is a top plan view; and,
Figure 3 is a side elevation of one of the removable bottom members.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, it will be noted that the improved container comprises three separate receptacles Y l, 2 and 3 supported in spaced relation by means of the standards 4, which are arranged in circumferential spaced relation relative to the receptacles. The standards 4f extend below the lowermost receptacle 3 to provide suitable supporting feet for the device, so that the receptacle 3 will be supported in spaced relation from the surface on which the device is resting. l
Each receptacle member comprises an annular rim of substantially Hat metal provided circumferentially thereof with transu verse slots 5, so as to provide means whereby a thorough circulation may be obtained for any articles contained within the receptacles. Each receptacle is provided at its lower edge with an annular inturned liange 6, which forms a rest or support for the removable bottom members 7 and 8. The upper edges of the receptacles 5 are turned upon themselves, as shown at 8, to engage a reinforcing member 9 to provide a substantially strong upper edge for all of the receptacles.
Either vone or both of the lowermost receptacles are provided with a removable bottom 8. However, in the present illustration, the central receptacle is disclosed with the removable bottom and this is preferably for the purpose of providing means whereby comparatively tall articles such as bottles and the like may be supported in the lowermost receptacle, with the upper portions eX- tending into the intermediate receptacle.
The receptacle members l, 2 and 3 are attached to the standards l by suitable. screw members l() and it will be noted that at the intermediate portion of the standards 4, a plurality of spaced openings ll are provided for receiving the retaining screws l0 so that the receptacle 2 can be supported at various heights between the standards and may be raised and lowered according to the articles being contained within the two lowermost receptacles. The upper receptacle l is pro-vided with a removable tray or bottom member 7, which rests upon the inturned flange 6. This tray or bottom member 7 in the present instance is provided with a plurality of circumferentially arranged spaced openings 12, whereby ice cream cones or the like may be readily supported therein.
The tray member 7 is provided on its lower side. with substantially U-shaped support ing legs 13, the ends of which are attached to the underside of the bottom 7 in any suitable manner, with the innermost arm of each v leg disposed on an incline, while the outermost arm is arranged in a substantially vertical plane, as shown in Figure 3.
It will be noted that the intermediate portion of each leg 13 is provided with a substantial horizontal lportion 14, forming a suitable rest for supporting the bottom or tray 7 in a raised position'. Attached t-o the upper face et the tray portion 7 is a stan-dard 15 having at its upper end laterally disposed arms 16 extending from both sides of the standard 15 to form a hand grip for -carrying the tray member 7 about and removing the same from the receptacle 1 or replacing the same therein. 1
In order to provide means whereby the device can be readily carried about, a handle member 17 is provided, the ends oit-which are attached to the upper receptacle 1 at a peint adjacent the upper edge thereof by means of suitable fastening pins 18. It will be apparent .from the foregoing that I have provided simple and inexpensive container whereby contections or the like may be supported within a. refrigerator or similar cooling place, without the necessity :tor providing separate packages or containers for these confections.
It will be noted that when it is desired to support bottles or comparatively high arti'.n cles in the bottom receptacle 3, the bottom 8' oi receptacle 2 can be removed and in the supporting ot articles within the receptacle 1, it will be noted that this is particularly constructed for ice cream cones, or the bott-om plate 7 may be solid in construe tion, eliminating the openings 12 so that various types ot articles may be supported thereon.
The device is so constructed so as to provide for a thorough circulation of air in and around the articles supported thereby, soA as to reduce to a minimum the deterioration or decay of such material in the receptacles.
lVhile l have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be apparent from `the foregoing that slight changes may be made in the construction when putting the invention into practice without departing from the spirit of the same or the scope ot the appended claims. v
l claim:
1. A container of the class described including a plurality of spaced supporting standards, a plurality of foraminous receptacle members arranged in spaced relation with each other and attached to the supporting members, removable bo-ttom members for said receptacles, means for adjusting one of the receptacles relative to the standards and a supporting` handle att-ached to the uppermost receptacle.
Q. A container of the class described including spaced supporting standards, a plu rality ot' receptacles supported in spaced relation between said standards, a removable tray having spaced openings therein, supporting legs attached to one side of said tray, a handle attached to the other side of the tray, means for supporting the tray within one of said receptacles, means for adjusting one of said receptacles relative to the standards, and a handle member attached to the uppermost receptacle.
3. In a container of the class described, a plurality of receptacles each comprising a circumerentialba-nd having spaced parallel slots therein, an inwardly extending flange at 'one edge of said band and a removable bottom membermounted upon said flange.
ln testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Manitowoc, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin.
