,OurV invention relates to certain improvements in platforms used for supporting merchandise in warehouses and factories.

The object of our'invention is to construct a platform partly of sheet metal and partly of wood and to make a comparatively light structure which will be of suliicient strength to c'arr the load for which it is intended.

The invention also relates to the construction of the body of the platform.

Figs. 6 and 7 illustrate modifications our invention; and A Fig. 8 is a sectional view illustratin another modification, in which one o the stringers is located alt'the end of the platform.

Referring tothe drawings, 1 is the body of the platform and 2 are the supporting legs, which elevate the platform to sutlcient distance above the iioor so that a carrying truck can be inserted betweenthe legs and under the platform.

The body portion 1 has a sheet metal floor 3, flanged at each end as at i and at each side, the flan e being preferably inturned as at 5 so as to gorm a channel on all -four sides of the truck.

the ends of these stringers are supported by the inturned flanges of the floor plate. The

In Fig. 7 we have illustrated a modification which is designed for a platform to carry heavy loads.` In this instance the flange 4a extends from the plate 3a a considerable distance below the bottom lof the strin rs 6b, and the inturned portion 5a of the ange 4 bears against the edge of the leg 2a, supporting the leg some distance from its connection with the wooden Stringer.

In Fig. 8 we have illustrated a modification, in which one of the side members of the leg 2a is secured to a stringer 6c2 on which is the shoe 10, while the other Stringer 6d is located in the channel formed by the lian e 4b and inturned portion of the flange 5b o the floor plate 3b. In this-instance the extension of the leg is secured directly to the wooden Stringer 6d, the bolt passing through the plate 7 3b, through the Stringer and through aperforation inthe extension of the leg.

By the above construction, it will be seen that we are enabled to make a comparatively light platform which will support heavy weights, and to so design the connections between the legs and the platform that the legs can be firmly secured in position without liability of becoming loose due to rough usage.

While we have'described the stringers as made of wood, other materials may be used without departing from our invention.

We claim: 'e

1. The combination in a platform, of a sheet metal plate forming the floor of the platform flanged at the sides, the iianges being inturned to form reinforcing channels at the sides of the platform; a series of wooden stringers extending from one side of the rmmvma, A

platform to the other under 'the floor; U- shaped legs having extensions at their upper edges; and bolts securing the legs'to the strmgers and to the floor plates.

2. The combination in a platform, of a fioor plate having inturned flanges at each side and at each end, forming reinforcing channels; a pair of wooden stringers at each end of the platform extending into the channels at the sides of the platform; legs located under the two strlngers at each end of the platform and secured thereto and to the floor plate; a central transverse Stringer extending from one side of the platform to the other and into channels at the sides of the floor plate; and means for holding the center Stringer against lateral movement.
