My invention relates to improvements in picking screens or coal handling apparatuses whereby the coal or similar material is .classilied according to size and wherein the various sizes are segregated and fed over picking tables so that they may be Separately picked. In the present invention, l provide a picking screen wherein lump, nut and egg coal may all be separately picked, thus enabling the operators to do more satisfactory work or inspection in less time. Other .ob-` jects will appear from time to time through- `out the specilication and claims. y

A is the working floor of a tipple supported on upright columns A1 above railroad tracks A2 A3 A1 upon which are adapted to A8 A8 are horizontal parallel tracks on the floor A. Upon these tracks are rollers A0 A0 which carry the reciprocating screen A10 which screen has short track sections A11 riding on these rollers. described below and maybe discharged at the end onto a re-screening conveyor B1 discharging into a lump and picked run-o-mine loading boom B2, thence into the car A5 or "the coal may be discharged onto a re-screening conveyor B3, thence into an egg loading boom B1 into the'car A0, or into a re-screen ling conveyor B5, thence into a nut and pea loading boom B6 and into the car A7. B7 is a belt or any other suitable type of conveyor arranged beneath the floor A and beneath the screen A10 and adapted to convey pickings, or rock and bone, or material to be rescreened back to a Vdischarge point B'3 where rock and bone may be discharged into any suitable receptacle. B10 B10 are pickin-g chutes ar ranged along both sides of the screen adjacent the picking tables so that the pickers `may conveniently dispose of the pickings.
At the receiving end the screen has three levels, a lump level C having a lump screen C1 therein. This lump level extends forwardly along th-e screen and by a gradual go-down plate C2 intermediate the ends, discharges onto the egglevel later to be described. Tmmediately below the lump level is a nut and egg level C3. This level lhas a nut and egg screen C4 through which all sizes smaller than nut and egg tall. Toward the forward end of the nut and egg level is a screen C5 through which the nut coal may drop to the nut level C0 which is on the same line as the egg level C10. Extending beneath all the other levels throughout the entire length of the screen and receiving material dropping through the screening surface C0 is the slack level G7. Thus there are at the receiving end ofV the screen three levels.y slack, nut and egg, and lump. lImmediately thereafter there are four levels, slack, nut, nut and D rescreening conveyor B3 if desired.

On the nut and the egg levels which are in the same plane, there are built integral with the screen and projecting laterally therefrom on either side, wings D, D. Battle plates Dl D1 on the nut level guide the coal on that level laterally outward into the wings D which at this point serve as picking tables for the nut coal. Immediately beyond the baiicle plates D1 D1, the nut and egg level terminates in a go-down plate D2 which conducts the egg coal down to the egg level and immediately adjacent the end of this godown plate D2 are baille plates D3 D3 which guide the coal from the egg level outwardly on both sides into the wings D, beyondthe nut portion of the wings so that the wings at this point serve as egg picking tables. Gates Dt Dl in the wings discharge into the rescreening conveyor B5 and the gates D discharge onto the sideways go-down plates D17 and thence to the slack level C7 so that the nut coal may be discharged betere it reaches the egg picking part ot the wings D, and a gate D5 in the slack level is provided at the same pointso that slack may be discharged itdesired, or nut can be carried torwardly on level C7 by closing gate D14. Gates DG are provided in the wings D beyond the point where the is picked so that the egg coal may be separately discharged to the Otherwise it passes over the go-downplates D18 at the ends of the wings D' to the level C7, the inwardly inclinde ends of the wings D7 cooperating with the inclined go-down plate to guide the coal inwardly. In order tl at the coal may be fed outwardly to the wings along the ballies and inwardly to the central portion or level C7 of the screen by the elements D7, the side wall is cut away. The side wall is cut away for the same reason that the sides ways go-down plates D17 carry nut from wings D. D8 is a gate in the nut level C whereby the nut coal may bedropped out oit the system ont-o the slack level and avoid going through the picking wings D when that is desired.
E is a slack gate in the slack level discharging into a chute El whereby the slack may be fed to a chute or conveyor E2 for any desired purpose.
At the end ot the lump level is a hinged godown plate F which eases the lump coal down to the lower level C7 which time before it reaches the loading boom and after picking is complete, it may be mixed with the balance of the coal or any part of the coal carried along level C7. The nut coal preferably takes the same course and is normally diverted to level C7 so that the lump is not mixed with egg and nut coal after being separated because it it were, there would be danger ot too great degradation.
D19 D21 are baille plates associated with the baille plates D1 and D3. They can be set either in a position parallel with the line of How when material is deflected equally to the wings on both sides or they may be inclined to one side or another to deflect all the material tothe wing on one side or the other. l1* D2z are re-scrcening members on the wings D. These screens are provided to finally rescreen the egg and nut on the wings alter picking and just before they are delivered onto the booms because under some conditions sueh re-screening is necessary to take out degra-dations occurring during the pickingand during the travel oi: the material which would otherwise depreciate the value et the coal.
The use and operation ot' my invention are as follows:
Coal is ted to the receiving end et the screen by` any suitable chute or conveyor discharging thereto. Vlhe coal if ted forward by the reciprocating movement ot' the screen passes over the lump screen. All sizes except lump passes down through the lmnp screen to a lower level. The lump goes on down the go-down plate onto the lower or egg level and isfinally discharged into the re-screening conveyor into the lump loading boom, this being the only boom normally used to load the lump coal. The nut and egg passes iorwardly along the nut and egg level, the slack droppingthrough at first and later the nut dropping through to the nut section, the continues on down the go-down plate past the battles which deflect it .to the discharge or egg picking end of the egg picking wings and this egg may be dropped through the gates to the loading boom or may be returned to the level CT and moved torwarffllj aud meet the lump coal as it discharges to the rescreening conveyor B1 and loading boom B2. The nutcoal which has passed through the nut screen onto the nut level is deflected to the 11p-stream endsof the picking wingsl and may there be separately picked. It can be discharged through the gates to the nut and pea loading boom or if the gates are closed will pass on with the egg mixing with it, as the egg picking table is reached and may be handled with the egg in any way desired or may .previously he deliccted to level C" so as not to interfere with the picking of egg. The slack which is dropped clear throught() the bottom level may be discharged directlv to the slack conveyor or to a car or any suitable point or may be carried on to the nut and pea loading boom or may be carried on clear to the end of the screen and mixed with the lump, picked egg and nut for run-o-miue or any other combination desired.

different points along the path of this coal and therefore the operator is enabled to get an effective picked product. By manipulating the various gates, he can get a wide range of groupings of product according` to size.

2. A reciprocating screen having lump, nut and egg, egg, nut and slack levels, screens one above the other in the lump and nut and egg levels and a screen in the nut and egg level adapted to discharge to the nut level, the nut and egg level having a go-down plate discharging to the egg level, the lump level having a go-down plate discharging to the egg level and deflector plates and side wings associated with the egg level whereby nut and egg are separately discharged .to the side wings for picking.
3. In a screen, a central screening portion, picking wings on either side thereof, means in the central screening portion for dividing ihe coal into two different sizes, means for conducting said sizes separately to different portions of the wings, a gate intermediate the ends of each of the wings whereby under the control of the operator material first placed on the wings may be discharged therefrom or fed along and mixed with the material later placed thereon.
4. In a combined screen and picking table,
r a picking station at the upstream end of the table, picking wings arranged on opposite sides of the table downstream from the first mentioned picking area, the table having a plurality of decks adapted to lead different sized coal onto the picking wings at differdeflectors associated with the table for guiding the material to the wings.
5. In a picking and screening table, a lump deck, a slack deck below it, a nut and egg deck intermediate them adjacent the feed end, a nut deck below the nut and egg deck and extending forwardly from av point removed from the feed end, wings on the same level as the nut deck, deflectors on the nut deck to guide material outwardly onto .the wings, the nut and egg deck terminating in a go-down plate beyond the deflectors discharging to the nut deck, deliectors on the nut deck beyond the go-down plate adapted 55 to guide material outwardly onto the wings.
6. 7. In a pickingl and screening table, a lump deck, a slack deck below it, a nut and egg deck intermediate them adjacent the feed end, a nut deck below the nut and egg deck and extending forwardly from the point removed from the feed end, wings on the same level as the nut deck, deflectors on the nut deck to guide material outwardly onto the wings, the nut and egg deck tern'xinating in a go-,down plate beyond the deflectors discharging to the nut deck, detlectors on the nut deck beyond the go-down plate adapted to guide material outwardly onto the wings, the lump deck terminating in a go-down plate discharging downwardly to the nuiA deck beyond the second deflector, a go-down plate adapted to convey material from the nut deck beyond the point where the lump is discharged to it downwardly toward the slack deck, means in the wings between said .defiectors for permitting discharge of material from the screening table.
8. In apicking and screening table, a lump deck, a slack deck below it, a nut and egg deck intermediate them adjacent the feed end, a nut deck below the nut and egg deck and extending forwardly from a point removed from the feed end, wings on the same level as the nut deck, deflectors on the nut deck to guide material outwardly onto the wings, the nut and egg deck terminating in a go-down plate beyond the deflectors discharging to the nut deck, deflectors on,v

lump. deck, a slack deck below it, a nut and Y egg deck intermediate them adjacent the feed end, a nut deck below the nut and egg deck and extending forwardly from a point removed from the feed end, wings on the same level as the nut deck, delectors on the nut deck to guide ma'erial outwardly onto the Wings, tlienut and egg deck terminating in a go-down 'plate'beyond the de- `flectors discharging to the nut deck, defiectors on the nut deck beyond the godown plate adapted to guide material outwardly onto the Wings, means in the Wings between said deiectors for permitting discharge of material from the screening table.
