Depending from the cross member 26 is a pair of brackets 29 which are pivotally secured to the cross member 26 by means of the pins 30 engaging the depending portions of connecting members 31. Intermediately of the brackets 29 are members 32 and 33 which are mounted at their upper ends 3% and 35, respectively, between the depending portions of the connecting members 36 and 37 which are centrally secured to the cross member 26 and the plate 25. To the forward end of the auxiliary implement carrying frame 18 is connected depending supporting member 38 which has apertures 39 formed theremeans of'the pin 43. The plow beam 42 extends rearwardly and downwardly and passes intermediately of the members l0 which members are secured to the brackets 29, and the entire assemblage is united by means of the pins or bolts 44. To the downwardly extending portion 45 of the plowbeam is secured the grading implement which is in the form of a scraper blade l6 which has a cut ting blade 47 extending longitudinally thereof at its lower edge and which is secured thereto by means of the bolts 48. The terminal portion 49 of the scraper blade 46 is formed into a moldboard L9 which has a longitudinally extending and diagonally disposed plowshare 50 attached to its lower edge and a landside 51 connected thereto on the opposite side from the share 50.
The members 4E0 carry discs 52 and 53 which are revolubly mounted on shafts 54E and 55, respectively, which shafts are supported by the members 56 and 57 which are secured to the member 40 by means of the plates 58 and 59 and the bolts 60. The lower edge of the forward disc 53 is disposed above the lower edge of the disc 52 in order to facilitate breaking of the ground in advance of the plow.
It will be seen that, in the employment of the mechanism just described, the solid shoulder which occurs adjacent the body of asphalt or macadam comprising the main portion of the road, may be quickly and easily cut away, and the material so cut away evenly distributed to provide a bed for the concrete shoulder to be formed in place of the soft shoulderjust removed. WVhen the mechanism comprislng my invention is employed, the plow carried by the end of the grader blade effects a substantially square cut adjacent the body of asphalt or macadam and this material which is so cut up is then evenly distributed laterally and no further operation is necessary to place the shoulder in a I therefore particularly point out and distinctly claim as my invention 1. In a road grader, the combination of a frame; a plow and supporting means there for; a moldboard for said plow, said moldboard formed as a scraper blade; and a plurality of discs longitudinally disposed in front of said plow, said discs adapted to suecessively cut the earth in front of said plow to different depths.
In a road grader, he combination of an 155 implement-carrying frame; driving means supporting one end of said frame; steering means supporting the other end of said frame; an auxiliary frame pivotally and vertically adjustably supported by said implement-carrying frame intermediately of said driving and supporting means; a plow beam supported on said auxiliary frame; a plow supported by said plow beam; and a moldboard for said plow formed as a scraper blade extending laterally therefrom, and a plurality of discs carried by vertical elements secured to said auxiliary frame and longitudinally disposed in front of said plow, said discs adapted to successively cut the earth in front of said plow to different depths. 3. In a road grader, the combination ofan implement-carrying frame, rearwardly disposed driving means and forwardly disposed steering means, intermediate of said driving and steering means, a removably secured auxiliary frame adapted to be vertically adjustably supported and to carry a plow share and mold board; and a plurality of longitudinally disposed discs in front of said plow.

In a road grader, the combination of an implement-carrying frame, rearwardly 'dis- 7 posed driving means and forwardly disposed steering means, a removably secured trian ular auxiliary frame, said frame being orwardly pivotally supported at two points by means of Vertically adjustable depending members, said auxiliary frame being adapted to carry a single plow beam and a plurality of longitudinally disposed discs in substantially the same plane as said plow beam, said disc being adapted to successively cut the earth in front of said plow to different depths.
