Description

Oct. 13, 1931. H. w. B-AUM 1,826,978
CABLE GUARD I Filed Feb. 13, 1928 Inventor Attorney Patented ea. 13, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEIT HOWARD W". BA'UM, OF KEAQRJISTSZ, NEW JERSEY CABLE GUARD Application filed February 13, 1928. Serial No. 253,985.
Figure Q is a detail section taken substan tially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail will 1 be seen that the numeral 5 generally refers to a derrick structure. I The guide structure which makesup the present invention comprises a bracket mounted on the end of the derrick beam and 515 having ournally mounted therein sheaves 51 over which the cables 39 are trained. A hood shaped casting 53 is attached to the bracket 50 to swing on the axis of the sheaves 51, and has detachably fixed in the lower end thereof to a guide bushing 54 which has two openings therein as shown in Figure 2 and specifically denoted by numerals 55 through which the cables 39 pass. This bushing is held in place by means of a set screw 56. The upper end .13 of the casting extends over the sheaves 51 to act as a hood therefor. A guide 57 is provided for the iron steel bucket.
It is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of this invention will now be clearly understood without'a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail merely by way of example since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of 3 parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scopeof the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A cable guard of the character described comprising a bracket, a sheave mounted 'within the bracket, a vertically disposed hood pivotally'secured to the bracket Within which the sheave is mounted, said hood 60 partly surrounding the sheave and being provided With a tubular depending portion, a bushing for disposition within the lower portion of the hood, and means for securing the said bushing in position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
' HOWARD W. BAUM.
