The present invention relates to a device which I call a spring clip box and has for its prime object to provide means for maintain ing the threaded ends of spring clips clean and well lubricated so that the nuts maybe easily and quickly removed therefrom and replaced thereon as may be required for repair work on automobiles and the like.

It is well known that the common practice leaves the threaded end and nuts of spring clips exposed so that water, mud and the like splashes thereon soon causing corrosion so that invariably when the nuts are taken off of the spring clip it becomes a hard and tedi- 5 ous job and usually results in the. stripping of threads so that the spring clip must be re? I placed by new clips.

.A further important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to install, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description pro-.

ceeds, the invention resides in certain novelfeatures of constructlon, and in the comblnation and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawings in detailit will be seen that numerals 5 denote conventional 1330. Serial No. 462,563. H 1

inverted U-shaped spring clips, the ends. of which project through openings in a cover 6 having adepending peripheral flan e 7-. The cover is adapted tobe disposed on a re:- ceptacle' 8 in whichyis stored lubricating oil or the like. The receptacle 8 is provided with slotted lugs 9 projecting from the ends thereof. V. 5 Thecoveris providedwith apertured lugs 10 projecting from the ends thereof. Bolts 11 extend through the slots and apertures of the lugs and have cotter pins and washers 12 at their upper ends and heads 13 at their lower ends. Springs 14 are disposed about the bolts 11 impinging against the lugs 9 and the heads 13 to maintain the receptacle under the cover 9.

It is preferable to provide a gasket 16 on the upper edge of the receptacle. On each end of each spring clip there is a pair of washers 17 oneabove and one below the cover 6 and the nut 18 is threaded on said end of the clip interiorly of the receptacle thereby being maintained thoroughly lubricated at all times'a-nd protected against mud, water and otherwise from the elements.

In this way it will be seen that by pulling down on the receptacle 8 soas to separate it from the cover'6 sufficient space will be left so that a tool may be inserted to engage the nuts 18-for their removal or for tightening them up. a g

It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.

The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantages enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.

It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of partsmay be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is:

1. In combination with spring cl1ps having nuts threaded on the ends thereof, of

means held in place by the nut for encasing the nuts against exposure to the elements, said means comprising a receptacle adapted w to contain a lubricant into which thenuts are immersed, and a cover supported on the ends of the clips by the nuts, and spring means engaging the receptacle with the cover so that said receptacle may be pushed downwardly to leave space enough for insertion of a tool to engage the nuts. e

2. A device of the class described comprising a-c0ver having a plurality of openings therein to receive ends of spring clips, a receptacle adapted to be supported under the cover, said receptacle having lugs, said cover having lugs, bolts extending through openings in the lugs, and springs associated with the bolts to engage the lugs of the receptacle to urge them upwardly.
