To the attainment of the ends in view, the main-shaft is provided with a single looperactuating eccentric which, through link-andlever mechanism, that is, mechanism devoid & of cams, imparts to the looper-bar all of its operative-movements. In the embodiment illustrated, the looper-bar is given its bodily endwise movements by means of an upstanding lever connected at its'upper end to the rearward end of the looper-bar. The lower end of the lever terminates substantially at the level of the main-shaft and is connected bya pitman to the looper-actuating eccenr, v trio. The turning movements of the looperbar are derived from the pitman to the midportion of which is connected the lower end of an,up-standing link connected at its upper end to a crank-arm fixed to the looperbar. The looper-bar is mounted between its 25 ends inthe usual swinging fulcrum support which causes the looper-bar to move in an i arched path in its endwise movement.
In the'accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 is a vertical section through a sewing machine embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a top- :plan View of the machine and Fig; 3 is a section on; the line 3-3, Fig. 2.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention illustrated, 1 represents the hollow frame or casing iofithe machine in which isw journaled the transverse main-shaft 2 formed with the needle-bar operating crank 3'and carrying the looper-actuating eccentric 4o 4. J ournaled in the horizontal bearing 5 in the frame 1 is the needle-bar 6 carrying the needle 7. The needle-bar operating crank 3 is connected by means of the pitman 8 to the lower end of the lever 9 which is fulcrumed 45 at 10 in the frame 1 and connected at its upper end by means of a link 11 to the arm 12 having a split hub 12 clamped to the needle-bar 6.
The machine is provided with the usual 150 cup-feed mechanism including the feedturning movements in the sleeve having Application filed March as, 1923. Serial No. 264,829.

The looper 13 is fixed to the forward end of the looper-bar 14 which is mounted for '55 fixed thereto a laterally projecting pin 16 Journaled in the upper end of a short arm 17 fixed to the shaft 18 which is journaled in the bearing-sleeve 19 in the frame 1.
Embracing the looper-operating eccentric 4 is the strapped forward end of the pitman 20 which is connected at 20 to the lower end of the lever 21 fixed to the rock-shaft 22 journaled in the frame 1 and connected at its upper end by means of the pin 23 to the rearward end of an arm 24 the sleeved forward end 25 of which embraces the rearward end of the looper-bar 14 and is confined against endwise movement relative to said looper-bar by means of the split collars 26 clamped to the looper-bar.
The upstanding lever'21 is preferably of a length substantially equal to the distance between the main-shaft 2 and the looper-bar 14, and the pivotal connection 20 between the pitman 20 and the lever 21 is substantially at the level of the main-shaft 2, whereby the pitman 20, as a whole, is disposed substantially horizontally. Clamped to the looper-bar 14 is a lateral arm or crank 27 the extremity of which is formed with a ball 28 to which is connected the upper end of a link 29 the lower end of which is connected to the ball-ended pin 30 fixed to the pitman 20 about midway the length of the latter. This connection imparts to the looper-bar its turning movements which are compounded with the bodily endwise movements imparted to the looper-bar by the lever 21. The looper-bar is given its rising and falling movements by the oscillation of the looper-bar supporting arm 17 about its supporting shaft 18.
These motions are so compounded that the looper-blade 13 is given an endwise movement to seize the needle-loop at one'side ofthe plane wy of the work and is then given an arched bodily rearward movement across the plane of the work which is followed by a retracting or loop-shedding movement of the 1 V 4 on the main-shaft 2 by looper-blade; all of the movements of the looper being derived from a single eccentric the mechanism described. It will be observed that the means for operating the looper-bar are exclusively crank, link and lever devices; no cams or other irregular mechanical motions being depended upon to secure any of the deslred motions of the looper-bar. The element 17 1s a link. I The element 28 is a crank which is connectedby the link 29 to the pitman 20 which is both a lever and a link in function. It functions as a lever in actuating the link 29 and it functions as a link in actuating the lever 21 which is connected by the link 24; to the looper-bar 14;. By virtue of this mechanism line-contact bearing engagements are avoided and durable wearing quality is as sured."
Having thus set forth the natureof the a invention, what I claim herein is 1. In a sewing machine ofthe fur and glove sewing type, the combination with a support in which said looper-bar is mounted between its ends for its operative movements, a crank-arm fixed tosaid looper-bar, a mainshaft, a looper-operating eccentric on said shaft, an eccentric follower, a link-and-lever connection between said follower and the looper-bar'for moving the latter bodily end wise, and a link connection between said follower and said crank-arm for imparting turning movements to the looperbar.
3. A looper-operating "mechanism for glove and fur sewing machines comprising,
a looper-bar, a swinging fulcrum support in which said bar IS'II'IOLIIltGd' for turning and bodily endwlse' movements, a crank arm fixed to said looper-bar adjacent its rearward end, a main-shaft having a looper-operating eccentric, a lever connected to said looperbar to impart bodily endwise movements to the latter, a pitman connection between said eccentric and lever, and a link-connection cent its rearward end, a main-shaft mounted transversely of and at a distance below the looper-bar, alever of a length approximately equal to such distance fulcrumed between its ends, the upper end of such lever being connected to said looper-bar, a pitman connection between said eccentric and the lower end of said lever, and a link connected to said pitman about midway the length of the latter and to said crank-arm.
5. Looper-operatingmechanism for sewing machines comprising a frame, a looperbar, a sleeve in which said looper-bar is mounted for turning movements, a supporting arm pivotally connected at its upper end to said sleeve and at its lower end tothe frame, a main-shaft, an eccentric on said shaft, an eccentric follower, means connected to said follower for imparting endwise movements to the looper-bar, and other means connected to said follower for imparting turning movements to the looper-bar.
6. In a sewing machine of the fur and glove sewing type, the combination with a horizontally reciprocating needle, and a cupfeed, of a looper-bar, a looper carried by said looper-bar, said looper-bar being mounted for operative' movements to present the looper in cooperative relation with the needle alternately at opposite sides of the plane of the work, a main-shaft, an eccentric on said shaft, and mechanism actuatedby said eccentric and consisting exclusively of crank, link and lever devicesfor imparting to said looper-bar all of its operative movements.
