This invention relates to a wire twisting device particularly adapted for use'intighten- 5 object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter! set forth, a wire twisting device by means of which a comparatively inaccessible pair of wires may be quickly and conveniently twisted to tighten the same.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement'of parts as hereinafter more particularly described, and as illustrated in the accompany- 15 ing drawings wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that the description and drawings are to be taken as illustrative and that the invention is intended to be limited only by the C23 scope of the claims hereunto appended.

The heads 6 and 9 are rotatably 4mounted upon a pair of annular shoulders l0 `formed exteriorly of a mutilated ratchetv 11.V The shoulders 10 extend through the concentrically disposed openings in the heads 6v and9 and the heads are maintained in position on the shoulders by means of a pair of side plates 12 which are fixedly'secured to the ratchet to form part-s thereof by suitablev bolts 13 extending throughthe' plates 12 and vinto the shoulders 10 and ratchet 11. The. ratchetlland plates 12v are formed in their, peripheral faces with a recess 14 which eX- tends inwardly beyond the axis'of the ratchet and plates. The recess 14' is' adaptedto be aligned with the' recesses 8 and when so aligned, the side walls of the recess 14 are flush with the side walls of therecesses 8. Having one end securedto the .plate `12 which retains the head 9 is a pin 15 which projectsinto the recess 14 midway `'between the side walls of thelatten'- On opposite sides of the recess 8, Vthe'head 6 is provided on its inner face with a pair of pawls-.lcand 17 `for engagementwith the' teeth 18 on the peripheral face of the ratchet l1. Each of the pawls is preferably formed of relatively stil,.resilient material, and is rigidly secured-to the head 6 in amann'ertohave its inner' end forced against theperipheryy of the ratchet 11. The head 9 is provided on itsl inner face witha pair of pawls Y19 and 2O similar to the pawls 16 and 17.

For eX- n' ample, the-handle member 2 is-held stationary y while vthe, handle member 1 is reciprocated v which causesthe pawls 16and 17 to rotate the l ratchet 11 in a'cloclr-wisedirection asviewed in Figure 2. During the movement of the Y handle member 1 in a direction to cause the ratchet 11 tobe rotated by the pawls 16 and 17, the ratchet is rotated relative to the head D 9 on the handle member. During movement Owing to the constant engagement of at least one of the pawls on the stationary handle member with the teeth 1S, there can be no return movement off the ratchet 11 when the reciprocating handle member is moved relative thereto. It is thought that the many advanta Oes of Y a wire twisting device in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the preferred embodiment oi the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the site, shape and arrangement-of' parts may be resorted to, so long as such changes fall within the scope of the invention as deiined in the appended claims.

A wire twisting device comprising, a rotatable ratchet formed in its periphery with a recess extending inwardly bevond the axis of the ratchet, a pin secured to the ratchet and extending into the recess midway between the side walls of the latter,a pairof handle members rotatably mounted on the ratchet, and a pair of pawls carried. by each handle Y member for engagement with the-'ratchet on opposite sides of -said recess.
