Description
Sept- 1; 1931. J. R. Mo'lsE ADVERTISING DEVICE Filed April 25. 1930 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Sept. l, l93l JOSEPH RUSSELL Mose,
OF HOUMA, LOUISIANA anvna'rrsne nevica Application filed April 23,
My present invention has reference to a new and novel construction of advertising devices, which includes a shaft having an angle end that is removably attached to the lower end of a support for an overhead fan, and which shaft has journaled thereon a spirally Wound member Which is substantially helicoidal and which affords a holder for an article to be displayed, together with 0 a frame of rectangular formation Whose upper and lower arms are centrally fixed on the shaft and Whose vertical and upper horizontal arms have journaled thereon vanes, the holder and vanes being multi-helicoidal so that the rotation of the fan Will effect a turning of the holder and a like turning of the vanes, with the result tha-t a continuous and varied color display will be effected which cannot fail to attract attention to the device and the article to be advertised and ywhich is arranged in the holder.
To lthe attainment of the foregoing the invention consists in the improvement hereinafter described and `definitely claimed.
ln the drawings: n
Figure l is a side eleva-tion of the improvement in applied position. f
Figure 2 is a sectional View approximately on the line 2 2 of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a detail elevation with parts in section to illustrate the manner in which the helical beams are ournaled on the frame c element of the improvement and have one of their ends contacted by an anti-friction member. f
ln the draivingsthe numeral l designates the depending support for an overhead fan l.
Connected to the lower end of the tubular support l, through the medium of atwo-A part clamp 2 there is a vsubstantially horizontally disposedarm 3, the arm being directed below the blades of the fan 1f. The arm 8 merges into a stra-ight extension which affords a vertical shaft 4. The shaft 4, adjacent to its ends, provides journals forl yhearings on the upper andflower horizontal members of the substantially rectangular frame .Suitable means are, of course, provided. for holding the bearings from longi- CVS 1930. Serial No. 446,646.
tudinal movement on the vertical shaft 4. The frame member 5 is preferably of wire and there is journaled on the vertical parts or sides thereof helicoidal vanes 6. These vanes are of a length approximately equalling the sides 0f the frame and have their ends contacted by anti-friction elements such as spheres S which are fixed on the side members of the frame. 'lhere are also journaled on the upper horizontal member of the frameI vanes 7 disposed to the opposite sides of the vertical shaft 4. These vanes have their ends contacted by anti-friction elements 9 similar to the elements 8.
.lournaled on the vertical shaft 4 are the ends of an article holder 10. The article holder comprises a spirally wound strip of some light material which may be metal, celluloid or the like. lt' may be here stated that the vanes 6 and 7 are constructed of very light g material and that the frame 5 is of comparatively light wire. The article holder l() 1s of helicoidal volute formation and is designed to receive therein a package ll to be advertised. The package is clearly visible through the convolutions of the holder 10. The convolutions of the holder l0 and the twisted elements comprising the vanes 6 and 7 are preferably variously colored and the colors of the vanes 6 and 7 are equivalent to those of the article holder 10. Such kcolor cannot fail to attract attention to the article ll in the holder lO. The turning of the blades of the fan l will direct air against the vanes 7 and 6 and against the holder l0. causing these elements to turn, and sustaining and bring any varieties of properly blended colors to the vision of the passerby so that his attention cannot fail but be directed t0 the article in the holder. The holder as Well as the vanes are slowly turned on taileddesoription Will not herequired. Oh-
viously7 Ido not Wish to Vloe restricted to the precise details herein set' forth and, therefore7 hold myself entitled to make such changes therefrom as fairly fall Within thev scope of what I claim. y
Having described the l. In'v an advertising device, a frame, a
vertical shaft on Which the frame is centrally journaled and said shaft having an upper offset arm toA he fixed on a support for an over-head fan, helicoidal membersjournaled on the frame and an open article holder journaled on the shaft.
2; An advertising device including a substantially rectangular frame, a vertical shaft on Which the frame is -centrally journaled, said shaft having an upper offset arm to be fixed on a support for an over-head fan, Y
spirally Wound vanes ournaled on the frame, an open article holder in the frame and having its end journaled on the shaftvand said holder being spiral'ly Wound to produce a' helico volute spiral. Y
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOSEPH RUSSELL Mose.
