Any number of strands may be employed to form the stem or rod 4,and each strand may consist of a single element, as shown in F igure 4, or of several elements, as shown in Figure 7. The sides 1, studs 2 and wales 3 are i rovided with openings 8 for the passage of t 1e stem or rod 4 which extends through the form to points outwardly beyond the wales.
The spacers 5 consist of conical castings,
which are provided with interior convolutions conforming to and engaging the con volu'tions of the stem or rod 4. The spacers 5 are arranged upon the stem 'or rod 4 with their small ends arranged inwardly or in opposed relation. The sides 1 contact with the outer or large ends of the spacers 5 and are held in properly spaced relation by the spacers. 'The saa'ce'rs 5 may be easily and quickly adjusted upon the stem or rod 4 so as to permit them to be arranged at the required distance apart, and they are secured in adjusted position by set screws 9 carried by them and engaging the stem or rod. The spacers 5 are provided in their outer or larger ends with radial grooves 10 so as to permit the use of a tool to effect their adj ust-ment on the stem or rod 4.
The nuts 6 are also casted and are provided with interior inner convolutions for engagement with the convolutions of the stem or rod 4 so as to permit their adjustment on the stem or rod by imparting a turning movement thereto. The nuts 6 contact with the outer sides of the wales 3 and are provided at their 7 inner ends with flanges 11 which are provided with openings 12 for the reception of nails 13 engaged with the wales and functioning to hold the nuts against rotation on the stem or rod 4.
The nuts 6 are provided with outer rectangular bosses 14 to permit them to be adjusted on the stem or rod 4 through the medium of a wrench.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be apparent that the tie or clamp may be readily a plied during the erection of a form, that t e spacers 5 may be easily and quickly adjusted on the stem or rod 4 to the points necessary to maintain the sides '1 in the required spaced relation, that the spacers may be easily and quickly locked in adjusted position by turning the set screws 9 inwardly into engagement with the stem or rod, that the nuts 4 may be easily and quickly adjusted on the stem or rod into contact with the 'wales 3','and that the'nuts may be easily and quickly secured in adjusted position by driving'nails through their flanges into the wales.
The stem or rod 4 may be of any desired length, and it may be cut to the length necessary to adapt it for use in connection with the form. As the stem or rod 4 is made from intertwisted strands of wire, and as the spacers 5 and nuts 6 are casted, the tie or clamp may be easily and cheaply manufactured.
When the wale consists of but a single member it is bored, as stated, for the passage of the stem or rod 4, and when it consists of two members, the members thereof are spaced apart a sufiicient distance to allow for the passage of the stem or rod. When the nuts 6 are turned upon the stem or rod 4, all parts of the form are drawn into proper relation and are held in such relation by securing the nuts against accidental backward rotation through the medium of the nails 13.
As the spacers 5 are of conical formation and arranged on the stem or rod 4 with their small ends inwardly, they may be easily removed from the wall or other structure after the form has been taken down. To permit the removal of the form it is only necessary to turn the nut 6 off of the stem or rod 4. After the spacers 5 have been removed, the stem or rod 4 is cut off at points within the recesses formed in the faces of theywall or the form through which it extends by a pin To adapt the tie or clamp for use in connection with a form of that type usedv in building hollow walls or other structures, it is only necessary to increase the number of spacers and to arrange the spacers on the rod in the manner shown in Figure 9, wherein l designates the sides of the form, 4 the stem or rod, and 5 the spacers, two spacers being employed for each side of the form and the spacers of each pair contacting with opposite faces of each side of the form. If desired, the spacers 5 may be provided attheir outer ends with angular bosses to permit them to be adjusted on the stem or rod 4 through the medium of a wrench, the bosses being shown by dotted lines in Figure 8 and designated 17. Set screws 18 carried by the nuts 6 and engaging the stem or rod 4, hold the stem or rod spacers and nuts are of long, pitch variety so" as to permit the rapid adjustment of the spacers and nuts.
While I have the invention together; with the structure which I now consider the preferred embodiment thereof, it is to be understood thatthe structure shown is merely illustrative and that such changes maybe made, when de sired, as fall Within the scope of. the invention as claimed. I claim 1. A form tie or clamp including astem or rod consisting of intertwisted wire strands, the intertwisting ofthestrands uniting them and providing the stem or rod with screw threads extending throughout the entire .length thereof, spacers having a spiralshaped opening axially therethrough, and set screws mounted in saidspacers whereby to p hold the spacers in adjusted position on said strands.
2. A form tie or clamp including a stern or rod consisting of intertwisted wire strands,
conical spacers having inner screw threads engaging thewlre strand, setfscrews carried by the spacers and engaging the stem or, rod, and nuts havlng lnner screwthreads engaging those of the rod.
rality of intertwisted elements, the intertwisting of the elements uniting them and provlding the stem or rod with, screw threads extending throughout the entire lengththere of, a cast metal spacer having inner screw threads engaging those of the stem or rod, v a set screw mounted in said spacer and adapted to hold said spaceragainst rotation on said elements, and a cast metal nut having inner screw threads engaging those of the stem or rod.
