Description

Aug. 11, 1931. c. WALLERSTEDT 1,818,368
BILL FOLD v Filed April 27, 1929 (15622-798 Wrzzer'sledf fnvenz ZEarney Patented Aug. 11, 1931 UNITED STATES CHARLES WALLERSTEDT, or sr. Louis, Missou ian BILL Fats Application filed. April 27,
This invention relates to bill folds and has for an object to provide an article of the type constructed in a new and improved manner.
A further object of the invention is to provide an article of the type having features of construction facilitating the operation of the device in a new and improved manner.
A further object of the invention is to construct an article of the type in such manner that the parts subjected to greatest wear may be made from the parts of the hide presenting the greatest wear resisting l qualities, while other parts may be made from those sections of the hide less wear resisting but sufficient for the purposes required and whereby the entire hide may be economically used.
249 With these and other objects in view, the
invention comprises certain novel parts, elements, constructions and functional arrangements as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view of the bill fold in folded latched condition.
Figure 2 is a view of the bill fold partly 0 en.
Figure 3 is a view of the bill fold wholly open showing the means of separating bills of larger denominations from bills of smaller denominations.
Figure 4 is a view of the bill fold open and Y empty.
The cover member A is sufliciently longer 19559." "seriai' n6. 858,578.
than the bills to be enclosed to "form lOand a hinge part 311. Suitable fastener members indicated at 12 "and 13 arefiem ployed t o"hol d'the coverfmembenin"folded I positionas shown atjFigure' f. a
The flap members B and C,aspabed apart sufiicient'ly for prodncmg the hingesection ll-,---extend transversely across the cover member A andare stitcliedtheieto *byi'tlie stitchings -14 and "1-5 respectively. B The flap B is transversely substantially three times 'th'e'width =0: the cover member Ag-p roviding flaps -16 and 17, while thefiap'membeh of" like proportions providing 5 the fia p s lfl andlS)? The fia'p'membern is folded l p proximately. rat the marginar edges of the cove'r memb er- A as indicated a't Q O-"aiid 21-, v the flap member 0 being similarly folded at 29 and It will be noted that the stitching 14 which secures the flap member B to the cover member A extends only along two longitudinal sides and across one end providing a pocket 2a between the flap member B and the cover A. The stitching 15 also extends along two longitudinal edges and one end and provides a pocket 25, the pockets 24 and 25 being for the receipt of any small article and both being enclosed by the flap 10 when latched as indicated at Figure 1 and both available at the top or the end adjacent the flap 10 when the two members are folded by the flap member which is not latched. This provides for the receipt of any article which the user desires to carry in the billfold aside from or in addition to the bills which are enclosed by the flaps B and C.
The construction of the flaps B and C spaced apart as indicated provides facility for functioning so that one of flaps, as the flap 17, may first be folded upon a number of bills of larger denominations which it is desired to separate from bills of smaller denominations in more frequent use. The bills of smaller denomination are then placed upon the top of flap 17 and the flap 19 folded over the bills of both denominations, the flaps 16 and 18 being also folded over. When, therefore, the billfold is open, the bills of smaller denomination are 0f ready access, as indicated more particularly at Figure 3, while the bills of larger denomination are more protected against removal.
It is obvious, of course, that indicating the 5 use of this as employing the flap 17 as the dividing flap is only an indication of one manner of use and is intended as in no way limiting the employment of any of the flaps for the purpose or in any other manner in 1 which it is desired to use the device.
What I claim to be new is:
1. A billfold comprising a strip of material sufliciently longer than the bill to be enfolded to provide a flap at one end folded inwardly, flap members extending transversely across the strip and spaced apart to provide a hinge extending laterally beyond the marginal edges of the strip and secured along the edges of thestrip providing pock- 20 ets between the strip and the flap members.
2. A billfold comprising a strip of material sufficiently longer than the bills to be enfolded to form an'overlapping flap, bill retaining flap members extending transversely across the strip and spaced apart adjacent the longitudinal middle of the strip to form a hinge in the strip, and stitching securing the flap members to the strip forming a hollow square, presenting the r mouths of two pockets formed thereby adjacent the fold of the overlapping flap.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature;
' CHARLES WALLERSTEDT.
