Description
A. D. HOUSE.
OIL-CAN.
No.181.'680, Patented Aug.29,1876.
N-PEI'ERS, PHOTOLI'I HOGRAFHER, WASHINGTON. D C,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALONZO D. HOUSE, OF ULSTER, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALE HIS RIGHT TO SAMUEL PETERSON, OF STANHOPE, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN OIL-CANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,680, dated August 29, 1876; application filed August 7, 1875.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ALONZO D. HoU'sE, of Ulster, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Oil-Cans; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters an figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawing is a representation of a vertical central section of my oil-can.
This invention has relation to cans for containing oil; and the naturevof my invention consists in an oil-can having a removable top, to render its contents accessible through its open mouth, a cylindrical body, an inverted conical bottom, with an inclined tube proceeding from the apex of the cone and provided with a faucet, the tube passing through the skirting or body of the can, as will be fully understood from the following description.
In the annexed drawings, the letter A designates the body of my improved oil-can, which is cylindrical and strengthened by hoops,-in the usual manner, well known to the trade. Near the lower end of the cylindrical body A is the bottom of the can, which is an inverted cone, B, tightly secured by its base edge to the inner portion of the can. At
v the apex or lowest portion of the conical bottom B one end of a draw-0E pipe, 0, is secured, which pipe extends downward and outward and passes through the skirting of the can, outside of which a cock is applied to this pipe. Whatever sediment is precipitated from the oil will collect at the lowest part of the conical-shaped bottom B, and will be carried kerosene or other volatile oils, provided with an inclined bottom and surrounded by a wooden casing, has heretofore been employed, as shown in Letters Patent granted to E. L. Allen, dated May 8, 1866, and I, therefore, lay no claim to such invention.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, i's
As a new article of manufacture, the oil-can herein described, consisting of the cylindrical body A,having a removable top, to render its contents accessible through its open mouth, the inverted conical bottom B, and inclined tube O, the latter being provided with a fancet and passing through the body, as set forth. i
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the-presence of two witnesses.
- ALONZO D. HOUSE. Witnesses: T. FLEMING LENT, WM. '1. MEAD.
