Patented `luly 7, 1931 NETE@ 'PTNT @FFEC JULIUS A. AUBOL, OF MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA GAivrBnnn .Application filed May 27, 193).VA Serial No. 456,166.
My invent-ion relates to improvements in wardly, and to accomplish this, the section gambrels for supporting meat. 17 is provided with a laterally and upwardly An important object or' the invention is to extending apertured knuckle 18, arranged provide a gambrel which is adapted to prop- Jetween laterally and upwardly projecting erly support a carcass from the hook carryknuckles 19, carried by plates 20. These ing arms when they are in the open posiplates are disposed upon opposite sides oftion, and which is collapsible so that the the section 16 and rigidly attached thereto hook carrying arms may assume substanby rivets 21 or the like, and project beyond tially vertical positions, whereby separate the free end of the section 16. These apersections of beern or the like may be applied tured knuckles 18 and 19 are pivotally con- 60 to or removed from the two hooks without nected by means of a bolt or pivot element the gambrel tilting, as would occur it the 22, as shown. The section 17 has a transarms remained in the open position. verse aperture 23, to register with transverse A further object of the invention is to apertures 24,formed.in the ends of the plates provide a device of the above mentioned 20, and these apertures are adapted to receive 65 character which is collapsible into a coma locking pin 25, carried by a lieXible elepact form, and which is of simple construcment or cord 26, securedto one arm 10, as tion and is strong and durable. shown. rIhe outer end of the brace arm sec- Other objects and advantages of the intion 16 is forked, and is provided with aper- 25 vention will be apparent during the course tured knuckles 27, receiving therebetween 70 of the following description. an apertured knuckle 28, formed upon the In the accompanying drawings, forming intermediate` portion of the adjacent arm a part of this specification, and in which 10, and these apertured knuckles are pivotlike numerals are employed to designate ally connected by a bolt or pivot element 29.

When the arms 10 are in the open or dis- In the drawings, wherein for the purpose tended position, the brace arm 15 locks the S5 of illustration, is shown a preferred emsame in such position, and the pin 25 is held bodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 within the apertures 23 and 24: to prevent designates arms provided at their lower the downward breaking of the knee joint of ends with hooks 11, which face outwardly the brace arm sections 16 and 17 The gamand are bent upwardly. At their upper brel, with its arms 10 in the open ordis- 90 ends, the arms 10 have apertured knuckles tended position, is adapted for supporting a 12, which are odset laterally with respect carcass by engaging the hooks 11 in the legs to the arms 10, so that these arms are posiof the same. If separate portions of beet tioned in the same plane. The apertured or meat are attached to the hooks 11 while r knuckles 12 receive a pivot element or bolt the arms 10 are in the open position, it is 95 13, pivotally supported by a link 14. obvious that the gambrel will tilt upon re- The numeral 15 designates an adjustable moving either portion of the beef. The free end of the section 17 may now be readily disengaged from the shoulder 31 and the brace 15 will assume a l@ depending vertical position. There .is now practically no tendency rfor the gambrel vto tilt when the load is applied to or removed from either 4hook 11.
It is to be understood that the form of my l5 invention, herewith shown and described, is to :be taken as a prefer-red example of the same, and that various changes in the shape,- siZe and arrangement of. parts, lmay be resorted to without departing'from the spirit Se of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claim;
Having thus described my invention, I claim:-
A gambrel comprising a pair of hook 25 carrying arms ,pivotally connected near their upper ends, one hook carrying arm being provided with spaced shoulders, a brace arm arranged between the hook carrying arms and embodying sections, a down- 30 wardly breaking knee joint connectingthe inner adjacent ends of said sections, means to lock the knee joint against opening movement, means for permanently pivotally connecting the outer end of one brace arm section with the adjacent hook carrying :arm the otherV brace arm section being provided at fits free yend with a notch lto receive the adjacent hook carrying arm, the wall of the notch being adapted to engage over aselected 4.a shoulder.
In testimony whereof I aliix ymy signature.4
