These trimming punches are preferably engageable with the lugs at substantially the same time as the perforating punches.
To provide for removal of the material sheared from the lugs in trimming the same there is a space 17 surrounding the inner faces of the dies and for guiding the trimming punches there are wear plates 18 secured to the combined sizing and shaping blocks 5 and engageable with the inner faces of these trimming punches. r 7
To clamp the lugs against the dies prior and subsequent to the engagement of the perforating and trimming punches with the lugs, I have provided the clamp 19 surrounding each perforating punch 13 and having its lower end engageable with the outer face of a lug. Each of these clamps is yieldably forced downwardly by means of the coil springs 20 carried upon the holder member 4 and engageable with one end of the rock arm 21 which is pivotally mounted at 22 upon the holder member. The other end of this rock arm is engageable with the plate 23 to which is secured the depending ejector rods 24 which extend downwardly through and are guided by the holder member and along side the perforating punch and have their lower ends engageable with the upper end of the clamp. Vith this arrangement it will be seen that the clamps act both to clamp the lugs against the dies prior to engagement of the perforating and trimming punches with the lugs and to hold the lugs against the dies during the return st *olres of the perforating and trimming punches, thereby facilitating withdrawal especially of the perforating punches. For ejecting the rim 1 after the lugs 2 have been finished by perforating and trimming the same, I have provided the ejectors 25 in the nature of blocks which are engageable with the lower edge of. the rim after the holder member 4 has been carried upwardly by the rim and. the combined SIZ. ing and shaping blocks have been moved radially inward by means of their coil springs. These ejectors are carried by the rods 26 which extend upwardly through the bolster plate 3 and are secured to the bars 27 located below the bolster plate. 28 is a rod secured to the bolster plate and depending therefrom for guiding the bars 27, and 29 is bushing sleeved upon this rod and adapted to be raised by means of the foot pedal 30 which is pivotally mounted upon the bracket 31 carried by the support 82, this latter-also being mounted upon and carried by the rod 28. For stamping one of the lugs 2 with suitable indicia such as the mark of the manufacturer, I have provided the stamp 3.3, which is secured to one of the punch holders 15 and is engageable with the outer side of :1. lug to imprint thereupon the indieia, this stamp being engageable with the lug just after the lug has been apertured and trimmed.
