IMPRovEMENT IN BRooMs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1S l 170., dated August 15, 1876; application filed July 14, 1816.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL HOBBs, of
Wilmot, in the county of Stark and State of reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a broomhead, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
ln the annexed drawing, which fully illustrates my invention, A represents a slotted plate or elongated flat link of any suitable dimension. B B represent the broom straw, which is laid on both sides ofthe plate or link A and sewed together, the thread or wire used in conneotin g the broom-straw passing' through the slot in said plate or link. `O O represent two other slotted plates or frames placed 011 the outside of the broom-straw, and fastened by screws t a to the inner or middle plate A, thereby connin g and holding the broom-straw tightly and firmly in place. On the upper edge the center plate A-is formed with two July, 187e.
curved or inclined arms D D, between which the handle is to be inserted and fastened. By the use ofthe center plate A a firm and durable base or foundation is formed for the broomhead, to which the broom-straw is lrst attached, as described, by sewingor binding with thread or wire, and when the outside plates C C are afterward fastened by the screws' a a, the broom-straw is clamped 011 both sides of' the center plate, making a strong and durable head. When the broom-straw is worn out, the4 head can be easily separated, and new straw placed between the plates to form a new broom.
