Description

J. L. E. RANNIGER.
GLOVES.
No. 181,011. Patented Aug.15, 1876.
IL PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHEIL WASHING'QN. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEE1oE.
JOHN L. E. RANNIGrER, OF ALTENBURGH, SAXONY, ASSIGNOR TO ALBERT HARRIS AND SIEGMUND HARRIS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN GLOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 1 81,011, dated August 15, 1876; application filed July 18, 1876.
This invention consists in a glove of leather, kid, or other material, provided with a slit or opening made to commence on, and extend along, the outer side or edge of the hand, and thence along the wrist, and, if desired, also .alon g the fore-arm, so that the buttons or other devices used forfastening the glove, are thrown more or less out of sight, and the symmetry and beauty of the hand and arm are preserved.
In gloves cut and made in the ordinary manner, the slit or opening of the glove extends from the wrist along the palm of the hand in a straight line toward the fingers, and in the long gloves now in use for evening or full dress wear, this slit or opening has been continued along the arm in a straight line. In this class of gloves the line of buttons or fastenings is thrown prominently and unpleasantly into view in almost any position of the arm or hand of the wearer.
The object of my invention is to prevent, as far as possible, such prominence of the buttons or fastenings.
In the drawing, the letter A designates my glove, which is made of kid, or any other suit able material. This glove is provided with a slit or opening, a, which extends along the outer side or edge of the hand, and thence along the wrist, and if desired, along the fore arm, and which is closed by button-holes and buttons, or by elastic loops and buttons, or by any other suitable fastening. If my glove is put on, the buttons or fastenings are scarcely perceptible. except when the arm is raised, and a glove is obtained which can be made to fit the hand or arm, and the buttons or fastenings of which are so situated that they do not interfere with the natural beauty and symmetry of the limb.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a glove with a slit or opening made to commence on and extend along the outer side or edge of the hand, and thence along the wrist, whereby the buttons or other fastening devices arethrown more or less out of sight, substan tially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day of June, A. D. 1876.
