The object of the invention is an electric cigar-lighter, in particular for motor vehicles, of such nature that the igniter is held loosely in a junction-box in such manner that '5 after receiving suflicient current the igniting.
body may be removed from the junction-box and cigars and cigarettes readily lighted therewith. In such cigar-lighters it is of great importance that the igniter glows for a While after being subjected to a steady current for a short space of time. In cigarlighters of this kind heretofore known this was not possible for the very reason that the glower together with its glowing surface were exposed to the open air and that accordingly it was necessary to pass current for a comparatively long period of tune through the glow-resistance before the latter could be heated sufiiciently to fulfill its purpose even to light a single cigar or cigarette.
By the present invention this objection is eliminated and an effective cigar-lighter is I provided by inserting the igniter with its glowing surface turned towards the lnterior front surface of the junctionbox, whereby a contact of the igniting surface with the outside air is avoided and the glower is enclosed in a chamber. The ignition effect is further increased when the igniting body catches into a a cap-like cavity in the bottom of the junction-box in such manner that a heating chamber which tightly encloses the glower 1s obtained. l 1
Altho the glower after its carrier has been removed from the junction-box is no longer connected with the current supply, it nevertheless continues to glow long enough to permit the lighting of 4 to 5 cigars or cigarettes in succession.
- By using an igniting body with a sufliciently high projection on the glower the lighter may also be used conveniently for lighting pipes.
The invention is more fully elucidated in the accompanying drawings, to-wit:

The j unction-box a consists of a metal body which receives loosely removable the ignitercarrier 6 which is also of metal. For this purpose a spring chamber (0) with the screw-springs (c) is inserted in the junctionbox. The carrier 6 contains a cylindrical body. 0 consisting of refractory insulating material, in the recess 6 of which a leaf-spring e is fastened. This leaf-spring e is connected b the screw-bolt k with a contact-ring b whicli is in conductive connection with a leaf-spring i and leads to a connection terminal g on and insulated from the box. A second connection terminal It is in conductive ,connection with the metal body of the junctionboxa. A metal bridge 70 leads from the carrying body Z) to the outside cap f of the glower. To this outer cap the outer end of the resistance-wire or band 7, wound worm-wise, is connected. This resistance-band is embedded in said cap of the glower and insulated therefrom. The inner end of the resistance-band leads through the screw-bolt (Z) to the brass bolt (Z By pressing down the button m andt-hus bringing the leaf-spring 6 into conductive connectionwith the brass bolt (P) the circuit is closed and the current takes the following course:
From terminal 9 across spring 11 to contactring N, then over bolt 70 to spring e over Z and Z, across heating-band f to the bridge is and from here over the metal body of the junction-box a to the connecting-terminal h.
The glower f rests, as appears from Fig. 7, in a cup-like cavity a in the junctionbox a which is entirely of metal, so that an entirely enclosed chamber is produced, Which may be termed heating-chamber, seeing that when the current is closed the glowing temperature developed suffers no loss from cooling or radiation. It is accordingly possible to heat the glower by a steady current supply in such manner that it is given the necessary temperature for a. number of lighting Having now more fully described and ascertained the nature of my invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is 1. An lectric cigar lighter including ahollow junction box open at the upper end, springs defining the open end of the box, an ignitcr carrier having a conical portion to project Within the junction box, said carrier at the upper terminal of the conical portion being formed to interfit with the springs to hold the -arrier Within the box against casual dis 'ilacement, a refractory body arranged in the carrier, a resistance element adapted to become incandescent under the passage of an electric current carried by and projecting be yond the refractory body, a push-button operative through the carrier, and a circuit for the resistance element including a member secured to the refractory body and normally in non-circuit closing position, said member being in the plane of movement of the pushbutton and being adapted to move to a circuiting position in operation of the button in one direction.

An electric cigar lighter including a hollow junction box open at the upper end, springs defining the open end of the box, an igniter carrier having a conical portion to project Within the junction box, said carrier at the upper terminal of the conical portion. being formed to inter-fit with the springs to hold the carrier Within the box against casual displacement, a refractory body arranged in the carrier, a resistance element adapted to become incandescent under the passage of an electric current carried by and projecting beyond the refractory body, a push-button operative through the carrier, and a circuit for the resistance element controlled by the push-button, the bottom of the junction box being offset to form a cup-like cavity to house the resistance element.

An electric cigar lighter comprising a unction box of hollow form closed at the bottom and open at the top, springs delining the top opening of the box, an igniter carrier adapted to seat in the open end of the box and engaged and temporarilyheld by the springs, said carrier comprising a conical portion extending into the box below the springs, a ref 'actory body secured to the carrier Within the conical depending portion, a glower carried by the body and adapted to become incandescent on the passage of an electric current therethrough, an electrical bridge element carried by the refractory body and electrically connecting the glower and igniter carrier, a contact ring secured on the lower end of the refractory body, a spring contact member in electrical connection with said contact ring, a. push-button operative in the carrier to actuate the spring contact member, a metallic body leading from the glower through the refractory body in position to be engaged by the contact member, circuit terminals extending through the junction box, one of said terminals being in electrical contact with tl .c box and the other insulated therefrom, and a spring strip extend ing from the insulated contact to be engaged by the contact ring on the insertion of the carrier Within the box.
