Description

W. ROEMER.
BELTS. No 180,500 Patented A1'1g-.1,1876.
N. PETERS. PHOTO-LITNOGRAPMER, WASHINGTON. 0 C.
' or face of this flexible band UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM ROEMER, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROV EMENT IN BELTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,500, dated August 1, 1876; application filed May 31,1876.
wearer, but which will not wrinkle orfold laterally like ,the flexible belts heretofore used.
The invention consists in placing upon a flexible belt rigid cross-pieces at certain dis' tances apart, so as to leave the flexible belt partly exposed to View; also in perforating said cross-pieces and flexible body for the use of the buckles, all as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a longitudinal section of my improved belt. Fig. 2 is a face view thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 0 c, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Theletter A represents my improved belt. The same is constructed of a continuous strip or band, a, of leather, velvet, or other suitable flexible material of the length and width which the belt is to have. To the outer side a are firmly attached at certain, preferably equal, intervals a series of bars or strips, 1), of metal or equivalent stiff material, each strip b extending laterally across the width of the belt. These in the customary manner.
rigid strips b are attached to the flexible band a by rivets d (1, (shown in Fig. 3,) or in other suitable manner. To the end of the belt A is or may be fastened a buckle or other fastening device,-e, of which the tongue engages in eyes ff formed on the other side of the belt These eyes f f are, by preference, formed in the rigid portions I), and extend thence, the flexible body of the-belt.
It will be seen that the face of the belt A is thus composed of alternate rigid sections 1) and flexible sections 9. The flexible sections will allow the belt to adjust itself longitudinally around the body of the wearer, while the rigid sections will prevent the belt from wrinkling or folding up laterally.
I claim as my invention 1. The belt, made of flexible material, and provided with a series of stiff pieces, I), which are permanently secured upon said flexible material at such distances apart as to leave the flexible body of the belt exposed between them, substantially as specified.
2. The flexible belt A, combined with the cross-bars b and with the buckle e, and provided with an aperture,
f, that extends through the cross-bar and the belt properfor the reception of the buckle-tongue, substantially as specified. v
