The set screw is threaded through the hole 32 in the holding member and lies partially in the semi-circular depression 2O in the opening 18, thereby forcing the body portion of the holding member upwardly into contact with the top wall of the opening 18 and holding it in that position with the lip 28 overlapping the outer face of the flange so that so long as the set screw is in position, the holding member is locked within the opening by the said lip and cannot be withdrawn (Fig. 4). The opening A18 should be of a length just sufficient to permit the lipped end to be pushed through easily but not sufficiently long to permit lateral movement of the holding member therein. Preferably, the

inner face of the flange of the holder is re cessed at 36 below each opening to receive the downwardly turned portion 24 of the holding member in order that there may be no projecting parts on the inner face of the flange. The side walls of the recess 36 also serve as additional means for locking the holding member against lateral movement in the flange of the holder.

To Vprevent withdrawal of the set screw from the holding member after it is mounted therein, the inner end of the said screw may be expanded outwardly in any suitable manner to form a lock. The outer end of each set screw is provided with a knurled head 38 and when the set screw is set up in operation, the head covers up and conceals to a large extent the opening in the flange of the holder and the lip of the holding member in order that these parts shall not detract fro the .appearance of the holder.

In the drawings, I have shown the shade holder as being provided with three set screws mounted in accordance with my invention which number is generally sullicient but more may be added if desired.

The mounting of the set screw in the shade holder is extremely simple; all that is necessary being toinsertineachopening a set-screw holding member by pushing the lipped end through the opening and then inserting the set screw into the opening and threading it through the threaded hole which forces the lipped end of the holding member up into locking position. After the set screws haveV been inserted, their ends are expanded to prevent withdrawal from the holding member.

It will be observed that when the holding member is mounted in the opening in the flange of the holder with thel set screw that lateral movement of the holding member is effectively prevented and likewise lateral movement of the set-screw. This is of importance especially in shade holders made of porcelain because it obviates all danger of cracking or breaking the flange which frequently results when the set screws are so mounted as to be capable of lateral movement.

It is Vto be understood that the foregoing embodiment of the invention Ais set forth merely for the purpose of illustrating the application of my invention which is not to be limited thereto since it may be embodied in various other forms of construction within the scope of the following claims.

What I claim is: Y

1. A shade holder having a flange provided with a through-and-through opening, a one-piece set-screw holding member mounted in said opening and having portions engaging the inner and outer faces respectively of said flange, one of said portions being provided with a threaded hole, and a set screw extending through said opening and said threaded hole.

2. A shade vholder having a flange provided with a throughl andthrough opening, a set-screw holding member mounted in said opening and having portions engaging the inner and outer faces respectively of said flange, said portions being turned in opposite directions and one of said portions being provided with a threaded hole, and a set screw extending through said opening and said threaded hole.

8. A shade holder having a flange provided with a through and through opening, a set-screw holding member mounted in said opening and having a turned portion engag- V ing the inner face of said flange and a lip engaging the outer face of said flange, said turned portion being provided with a threaded hole, and a set screw extending through said opening and said threaded hole.

4. A shade holder having a flange provided with a through and through opening, a set-screw holding member mounted in said opening and having a turned portion engaging the inner face of said flange and a lip engaging the outer face of said flange, said turned portion being provided with a threaded hole, and a set screw extending through said opening and said threaded hole; said opening being of such shape and size that said set screw locks said holding member in said opening and locks itself against lateral movement.

5. A shadeholder having a flange provided with a through and through rectangular opening, one side of said opening having a semi-circular depression, a set-screw holding member mounted in said opening and having portions engaging the inner and outer faces respectively of said flange, one of said portions being provided with a threaded hole and a'set screw extending through said imam threaded hole .andV mounted in the semi-circular depression in said opening. A shade holder having a liange provided with a rectangular through vand through opening, a one-piece set-screw holding member mounted in said opening and lhaving portions engaginglthe inner and outer faces respectively of said flage'one of said portions being provided With a threaded hole, and a set screw extending through said p opening and said threaded hole for locking said holding member within said opening.

7. A shadeV holder having a flange provided vvith a through and through opening,
