Description

April 21, 1931. p THROWER 1,802,290
ICE JACKET Filed May 10, 1930 Z0 gwuwntov Patented Apr. 21, 1931 marten stares rrEN 'r orria PEARL ESTELL THROWER, OF SAN ANGELO, TEXAS ICE JACKET 7 Application filed May 10, 1930. Serial No. 451,389.
This invention relates to an ice jacket, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind which serves effectually as shield or protection for the clothes of an iceman for wearing and damage resulting from carrying ice upon the shoulder and also to protect aga'nst the dripping water resulting from the melting of the ice.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which can readily and conveniently be applied upon the wearer and which also is provided with means for holding in convenient position the various implements and accessories used by an iceman.
While my improved invention as herein disclosed is primarily intended for use as a jacket for icemen, it is to be understood that it canbe used by porters or other persons in the handling of loads of differing kinds.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement or" the several parts of my improved ice jacket whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device renoered simpler, less expensive and other- Wise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features'of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a view of a jacket constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention unapplied and with the shoulder and waist straps extended;
Figure 2 is a view in perspective of a person from the front with my improved jacket applied;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of a person from the rear with the jacket applied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, my improved jacket comprises a panel 1 of such dimensions and configuration as to be disposed substantially over the back of the wearer and this panel 1 is madeof waterproof canvas or other material capable of efiective use for the purposes desired.
The lower marginal portion of the panel 5 1 is provided with a return fold 2 overlying the outer face of the panel 1 and having the upper portion of its extremity anchored to the panel 1. This fold provides a trough to catch water which may flow down from the panel 1 and the Water collected by the trough will readily discharge out through the ends thereof.
Theupper end portion of the panel 1 is continued by the transversely spaced shoulder straps 3 preferably integral with the panel land provided at the side marginal portions thereof. The inner marginal portions of the straps 3, as indicated at 4, are disposed on a suitable curvature in order to assure an effective fitting or placement of the panel 1 upon the back of the wearer in close proximity to thenape 0f the neck.
The panel lat the waist line thereof has secured to its side marginal portions the oppositely disposed belt straps 5 which are adapted to be disposed forwardly around the body of the wearer at the waist line. The free extremities of these straps are provided with conventional means 6 for detachably and adjustably connecting the same. The free extremities of the shoulder strapsS and the waist straps 5 are provided with separable fastening members 6 whereby the shoulder straps, when the jacket is applied, are effectively secured to the waist straps yet can be readily disengaged therefrom when it is desired to remove the garment. It is to be noted that the separable fastening members 6' carried by the extremities of the shoulder straps 3 are arranged in series lengthwise of such straps so that the connection with the shoulder straps 3 with the waist straps 5 may be adjusted as the occasions of practice may require.
The inner marginal portions of the straps 3 at a desired point intermediate their ends have secured thereto the breast straps 7 the free extremities of which being provided I100 with conventional means, at 8, to permit said straps 7 to be adjustably connected.
These breast straps 7 provide furthermeans for maintaining the garment in desired position upon. the wearer and particularly to serve to prevent separating movement of the straps 3 Which would otherwise result in the same slipping from the shouiders of the wearer.
The Waist straps 5 carry a pick scabbard or sheath 9, coin pocket 10, pocket 11 for loose coupons that have been redeemed and a coupon pocket 12. I also find it of advantage to provide one of the shoulder straps 3 with a pencil pocket 14.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that an ice jacket constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and employed, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
A jacket of the class described comprising a back panel, shoulder straps carried by the upper end portion of the panel, waist straps secured to the side marginal port-ions of the panel, the extremities of the waist straps being adapted to be connected, coact-ing separable means carried by the extremities of the shoulder straps and the waist straps for detachably connecting the shoulder straps and waist straps, and breast straps carried by the inner marginal portions of the shoulder straps, the extremities of the breast straps being adapted for detachable connection.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
